We are looking to recruit a dynamic, creative and caring Economics and Business Studies teacher, committed to the pursuit of excellence, for our exciting and unique school. 

Our latest BSO OFSTED report found TBS to be ‘an excellent school: [which] provides an outstanding quality of education and demonstrates an exceptional flexibility in meeting the learning and personal needs of its students’. Established in 1966, The British School Kathmandu (TBS) provides for c.580 children aged 3 to 18 from approximately 40 countries. The school is oversubscribed and is extremely well regarded in the wider community. We were awarded TES Strategic Initiative of the Year 2016 for our community work in Dhading as well as SLT of the Year, Community Initiative of the Year and the overall British International School of the Year 2017. Staff have collaboratively developed a TBS learning policy and we adapt the English National Curriculum alongside the International Primary Curriculum to offer a creative and flexible curriculum that leads to Cambridge IGCSE and A Levels at Key Stages 4 & 5. The school is a founder member of the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA) and a fully accredited member of the Confederation of British International Schools (COBIS). 

Economics and Business Studies (Head of Department could be a possibility) 

All students and staff are committed to supporting the wider community through our wide-ranging TBS community programmes. All teachers also support and contribute actively to our cross-curricular days and weeks, our diverse programme of extra-curricular activities, and the PSHE programme. Secondary teachers will be expected to teach their subject to A Level and to prepare students for world class universities. We do have high expectations and teachers must be willing to work hard and to live up to our ‘excellence at the top of the world’ motto.

The successful candidates will have recent UK/International experience, be highly motivated, well organised and possess UK qualifications (or equivalent internationally recognised qualifications). An understanding of the benefits and challenges of living in a developing country is an advantage.

Aims

Overview

The British School, Kathmandu is a not for profit, non-selective, coeducational school.  Around 550 students from Early Years to Year 13 attend school in our unique campus in the historical area of Patan, surrounded by the Himalayan mountain range. Our community consists of families from over 40 different countries and together we help develop young people who strive for excellence and are kind, through an emphasis on challenge, creativity, confidence, compassion, and community.

School structure

The school is generally two form entry throughout. The Primary School and The Secondary School are each led by their own leadership teams with a whole-school Principal leading both.

The Leadership teams oversee the monitoring and tracking of progress of each student and are responsible for the high quality of teaching and learning, along with the outstanding pastoral care. From Year 4 upwards, every child sits a Cognitive Ability Test (CAT4s) which enables the staff to assess the progress of the students, map their strengths and weaknesses and personalise their learning journey, so that it is appropriately challenging.

All appointed staff are enthusiastic, energetic and fully committed to delivering a high quality British education. Educational advisors from the UK and Commonwealth visit the school to share their expertise on best current practices in education. Our most BSO Inspection Report (February 2016) stated “The British School, Kathmandu is an excellent school: it provides an outstanding quality of education and demonstrates an exceptional flexibility in meeting the learning and personal needs of its students”.

We are situated in the Jhamsikhel area of Patan, approximately two kilometres to the south of Kathmandu. There is a wealth of activities available from art and sport to good restaurants and a busy social calendar. Whilst Kathmandu is a city, on the edges of the valley and beyond there is a beauty which exceeds all expectations; as Rudyard Kipling said, "The wildest dreams of Kew are reality in Kathmandu”.
