Orchard Primary Academy – Background and Vision

Background

In October 2015, Orchard Primary Academy replaced Chickenley Community Junior, Infant and Nursery School, with a new co-educational Academy on the same site.  The Academy has great potential but, currently, faces many challenges: all aspects of  the academy are improving; but, achievement, is simply not yet good enough.

We have recruited excellent teachers and the quality of teaching, behaviour and attitudes and learning are showing very positive green shoots. The previous school was in special measures and must and will improve quickly and effectively. The staff are highly committed to achieving the best for our children, as quickly as possible.

Sponsorship

South Pennine Academies Trust is the sponsor and works in partnership to raise levels of attainment and aspirations of all students. As sponsor, South Pennine Academies Trust is very well placed to create a unique institution characterised by high achievement and success. The Trust has a national reputation for excellence and has a solid track record of partnership working with employers, universities and local schools.

The benefits that South Pennine Academies Trust brings are immense, adding their expertise and ideas as well as opening up life-enhancing opportunities to all in Orchard Primary Academy.

The key to the Academy's success will be the development of a shared vision, effective and transformational leadership and management, robust partnership arrangements, high quality and focused teaching which guarantees students learning and success.  This all needs to be achieved amongst a strong and cohesive staff body.

Students at Orchard Primary Academy will show good manners, work hard and be honest at all times.  They will learn, share and succeed, together.

The Trust

The Executive Principal from Moor End Academy (rated ‘Outstanding’ twice by Ofsted), has been working with the Academy in a supportive capacity, since Spring 2014. During special measures HMI commented on this relationship,
‘leadership is rapidly improving’….; ‘The challenge and support from Moor End Academy have provided significant impetus and drive to the recent improvements seen in the school. Additional leadership support and oversight have ensured that the school knows what it needs to do to improve and has provided targeted support when necessary’.
