Newcastle & Stafford Colleges Group is financially one of the strongest of its kind in the country with very high success rates, amongst the top 10% nationally. The group is currently home to a population of over 4,600 full-time students and around 620 students on higher education programmes.

We are looking for an effective leader who can manage Apprenticeship and other Work-based provision within the Engineering and Construction sectors, ensuring the highest quality and driving significant growth.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear leadership, motivation and support to all staff within the area ensuring NSCG can achieve and maintain its overall objective of being outstanding in all areas.
  • Foster a culture of supporting employers’ work-based training requirements in both the Engineering and Construction curriculum areas. 
  • Drive an increase in apprenticeship training market share through effective business engagement and sector links and by managing and deploying staff/resources effectively. 
  • Ensure the College is professionally represented on local and national Engineering and Construction employer and training provider groups.
  • Continually monitor, maintain and improve quality outcomes, including the timeliness of achievements, across all qualifications.
  • Keep abreast of current developments in work-based training, particularly implementation of standards, end-point assessments, use of the apprenticeship levy and growth in Higher and Degree apprenticeships.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Holds appropriate professional qualifications.
  • Is an outstanding leader, strong motivator and achieves excellent levels of success.
  • Has extensive experience as a practitioner within apprenticeships/work-based learning and a detailed appreciation of the training needs of employers.
  • Can demonstrate the experience, ability and enthusiasm to assist in the development of apprenticeship standards.

Newcastle-Under-Lyme College is a mixed, non-denominational further education college in Staffordshire, serving students from the age of 16 and above. The further education college, situated in Newcastle under Lyme has approximately 3,800 full time learners on site every year, along with 2,600 part time or adult learners.

Newcastle-Under-Lyme College opened in 1986 and in 2010,  moved to a £60 million campus. In 2015, a £5.5 million performing arts centre opened, while an outdoor learning centre built the following year. The college works closely with LEGO Education to help support learners and teachers and has invested £60,000 in a LEGO Education Innovation Studio. Other facilities include The Gordon Banks Sports Centre, which features a 24 station gym, a media theatre, fashion studio and a hair and beauty training salon. In 2013 it was identified as good by Ofsted.
