Salary: Scale 4, Spine Point 7 £24,279, pro rata to £21,092.74 Term time only

Contract Type: Full Time (Term Time only). Fixed until 31 August 2022 in the first instance with the possibility of extension.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in influencing the next generation of designers and engineers and will have a role in helping to shape the future of the department. The technician’s role is to provide technical support within the Engineering department and support class teachers in curriculum delivery to support students’ academic development. The successful candidate will also ensure a safe learning environment for our students and assist the teacher in overseeing students undertaking practical tasks.

This post would be ideal for a recent engineering graduate or an individual with extensive knowledge in this field (electronics, electronic components and basic coding). Confidence in setting machinery and workshops in preparation for classes or the willingness to learn this skill is key.

About the Department

The Engineering department is at an exciting stage of development both in terms of curriculum and provision. Our fantastic facilities offer 3 fully equipped workshops and a CAD/CAM room with state of the art machinery, ranging from 3D printers, Laser cutters and CNC machines.  We strive to encourage students to work on ‘real life’ projects that help develop their understanding of what the role of an engineer is. We also provide hands-on self-directed activities such as Autodesk Inventor Expert club and Robotics. The department aims to be world class and is technically orientated towards systems & control, digital design and digital manufacturing, product design and engineering.

What we Want

• To support class teachers in creating and maintaining an orderly, safe and productive working environment within the Design & Technology Department 

• To assist in the development of ICT facilities particularly CAD/CAM throughout Design & Technology.

• Help to prepare teaching resources, cutting and preparing materials for classes.

• Work with groups of pupils under the guidance of the class teacher in the area of Engineering, specifically Resistant Materials & Engineering.

• Be proactive, approachable, calm and professional;

• Have excellent communication skills and a high level of personal organisation;

• To have the highest standards at all times to ensure maximum progress and outcomes for learners;
