English GCSE Mentor

Great opportunity for new or experienced teachers to improve techniques and make a tangible difference. 

We run Saturday morning group mentoring sessions for struggling GCSE students from north London. Our focus is English and Maths as well as personal development mentoring.

One Degree is looking for trained or in-training teachers to support our mentoring programme in the form of volunteers. Similarly, you could be confident in English and/or Maths to help out.

This year's programme will run out of Ada College in Tottenham Hale (easily accessible on the Victoria Line) and will support 60 students from three nearby schools.

Our volunteer mentors are the heart of One Degree. These mentors, tutors and teachers give up their Saturdays to work with students that are quite often brushed aside in their communities or schools. 

In return for giving these young people direction and support, our volunteers experience first-hand what it means to make a tangible difference in the lives of students that may have been left behind otherwise. 

Our dynamic programme makes volunteering at One Degree a fun and stimulating way to spend your Saturday. You will be able to interact with people who share your passion and have the opportunity to listen to fantastic, inspiring speakers. 

Participating in this environment will broaden your personal horizons and expand your teaching and mentoring skills as you make a meaningful impact and help to develop tomorrow’s leaders. 

You will also gain new communication skills that can be used in your business and personal relationships. Our next programme runs for 20 Saturdays from the 3 November 2018 to the 8 June 2019, but volunteers need only commit to a minimum of 3 Saturdays. Most, however, become very addicted and come back most Saturdays we run.
