Contract: Permanent 

Salary: AM1-AM6 + TLR2C

 The Role

• To manage the professional community of subject teachers to ensure high attainment in English across Key Stage 3.

• To lead our bespoke English Mastery curriculum which enables the highest level of pupil progress and attainment

• To support the leadership of a high performing English department alongside the Subject Leader of English and the Assistant Principal 

Key responsibilities

• Subject coordination in Key Stage 3 English

• Lead the professional community of subject teachers in Key Stage 3 English in the academy

• Quality teaching and learning of their subject across the academy 

• Curriculum setting and assessment across the academy as agreed with the Assistant Principal and Subject Leader for English 

Outcomes and Activities

Subject Coordination across the Academy

• Leadership and support of all subject teachers within Key Stage 3 English 

• To ensure that systems are in place that enable all lessons in their remit area are good or better

• Leadership of the Subject Community 

• Leadership of CPD particularly in relation to development of teachers of Key Stage 3 English

• Developing strong partnerships and ensuring regular and productive communication with parents

• Developing others’ practice to sustain best possible outcomes for students.

• Support Subject Leader in strategic development of the department 

Teaching and Learning

• Work with the Assistant Principal to establish a subject development plan, target setting and review

• Support the Subject Leader of English in the management departmental budget and resources effectively and efficiently

• Direct and supervise support staff assigned to lessons and when required participate in related recruitment and selection activities

• Implement and adhere to the academy’s behavior management policy, ensuring the health and well-being of pupils is maintained at all times

• Maintain regular and productive communication with pupils, parents and carers, to report on progress, sanctions and rewards and all other communications

• Keep abreast of any developments within their subject area, particularly in relation to English Mastery

Curriculum setting and assessment

• Successfully deliver and manage the English Mastery Curriculum across Key Stage 3

• Work with the Assistant Principal and Subject Leader to monitor and assess teaching and learning within the subject

• Set regular, measurable and significant assessments for the student

• Establish agreement for monitoring and evaluation of student progress

• Maintain accurate pupil data that can be used to make teaching more effective

• To produce/contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual and groups of pupils

• To ensure the regular setting and completion of high quality home learning activities.

• To robustly review data and achievement of students in relation to remit 

Academy Culture

• Support the academy’s values and ethos by contributing to the development and implementation of policies practices and procedures

• Help create a strong academy community, characterised by consistent, orderly behaviour and caring, respectful relationships

• Help develop an academy culture and ethos that is utterly committed to achievement

• Support and work in collaboration with colleagues and other professional in and beyond the school, covering lessons and providing other support as required

• Vision aligned with Ark’s high aspirations and high expectations of self and other.

Other 

• Undertake, and when required, deliver or be part of the appraisal system and relevant training and professional development

• Undertake other various responsibilities as directed by the Principal.

Person Specification: English KS3 Lead

Qualification Criteria

• Qualified to degree level and above

• Qualified to teach and work in the UK

• Evidence of professional development.

Experience

• Experience of raising attainment in a challenging classroom environment

• Experience of contributing to a high achieving department within a large and complex school environment

• Experience of delivering consistently outstanding lessons to students of all ages and abilities including KS5.

• Experience of implementing behaviour management strategies consistently and effectively

• Experience of supporting students of all ages and abilities to make excellent progress and achieve impressive examination outcomes

• Experience of leading successful enrichment and extracurricular activities which inspire and motivate learners.

About Ark Globe Academy

In 2008 Geoffrey Chaucer Secondary and Joseph Lancaster Primary school merged to join the Ark network as Ark Globe Academy. Ark Globe Academy is a mixed all through school with student age ranging from 3-18.

At Ark Globe Academy we have the highest aspirations for all our children to ensure they are prepared for university and inspired to be leaders in their community. We offer our students a first-class education based on high quality teaching and experiences outside of the classroom.

Our school was recognised by the Government in its Parliamentary Review as an example of good practice in education and students make excellent progress at KS4. All our sixth form students received a university offer with 73% of those being a top 3rd university.

Ark Globe Sixth Form is in the top 2% of all sixth forms in the country and has received the Sixth Form of the Year award at the Ark Education Summit 2019.

Ark Globe Academy is divided into four small schools Elbrus, McKinley, Kilimanjaro and Everest, also each small school has a Dean. This ensures that personal relationships between pupils and staff develop quickly, and that a culture of excellent behaviour and shared social norms are easier to maintain.
