About you:

Due to our continued growth, we seek to appoint English Language Assistants for Primary & Secondary to join our team in August 2022.

Job Purpose: 

The English Language Assistant – ELA provides educational supports through supervision and instruction for English language learner (ELL) students under the direction of staff; completes routine clerical tasks for teachers; and serves as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with limited English-speaking persons.

• Works under the guidance and direction of the teacher with access to assistance and consultation

• Works collaboratively by assisting teachers in assessment, supporting curriculum, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of students in the school setting.

• Provides instructional support to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations.

• Administers tests and language assessments under the guidance of a classroom teacher or the inclusion department for the purpose of evaluating student’s language ability

• Confers with teachers, parents for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing of students' objectives

• Performs record keeping and basic clerical functions, scheduling, copying, etc. to support teachers in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials in the students' primary language

• Pre-teach and reteach key concepts taught in class, provide frequent check-ins with ELL   students to ensure understanding and check for areas that require further intervention and perform other duties 

• Records student progress in language acquisition for the purpose of documenting student performance and maintaining updated records

• Translates verbal and written communication/s for the purpose of assisting students, staff, and parents in communicating effectively

• Help support students in developing positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults

• Pre-teach and reteach key concepts taught in class, provide frequent check-ins with ELL students to ensure understanding and check for areas that require further intervention and perform other duties 

Job Specification

• Bachelor’s degree in English, CELTA, TESOL, TEML, ELT 

• Excellent written/spoken English language skills. 

• Competent Literacy, Numeracy, and IT skills at the required level.

• Effective interpersonal skills to aid in daily contact with a diverse multi-cultural population. 

• Knowledge of strategies which support positive behavior to meet school expectations.

• Support ethos of the learning environment.

• Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues. 

• To contribute purposefully to the team. 

• Able to handle a range of tasks, work under pressure and relate well to students and colleagues.
