Job overview

Want to unlock the potential of SEN pupils and help shape their futures?

Access School offers an innovative, SEN education for girls and boys between the ages of 5 to 17 years old. Set in the heartland of rural Shropshire near Wem, Access School has made a name for itself as a vibrant, pro-active and continually improving school with dedication to setting and achieving realistic yet high goals for pupils from a range of backgrounds.

Here at Access we strive for excellence, but recognise that it takes time, effort, patience and lots of support. Our staff go above and beyond to ensure students’ achievements are celebrated, no matter how small or big.

We pride ourselves at Access as being an extremely caring community with our staff adopting a therapeutic approach. One day you are playing football with a student; the next you’re providing comfort and support because they’ve had a tricky night at home and cannot manage in school. The support from all teaching staff cannot be underestimated and is a crucial factor in building positive relationships with our pupils.

Creative learning is an essential aspect of Access School. We are fortunate enough to have beautiful surroundings which play a pivotal role in inspiring our students’ work and projects at Access. A fantastic teaching team with a range of skills sets compliment the setting of the school perfectly. Some of the fabulous Art created by our students is showcased around the school.

We at Access recognise the importance of an engaging curriculum in conjunction with a deep focus on developing key life skills. You’ll find students watering plants, painting pots as well as feeding the animals over in the land use area. Whilst all of this is happening onsite, small groups of students are offsite developing some key life skills which include: communication, map reading, orienteering. New strategies and ideas are discussed during team meetings and teacher focused sessions.

Where each day is different to the next

We are looking for a creative and therapeutic English teacher who can bridge the reading and literacy gaps for our young people. Many of our young people find reading and writing challenging so it is essential that the English teacher can inspire our young people and help them to be the best they can be.
