Sacred Heart School is looking to appoint a dynamic and ambitious English teacher. 

We are seeking an outstanding practitioner to be part of this highly successful department, where standards are high, and we strive for excellence. Experience of Key Stage 5 as well as Key Stages 3 and 4 would be an advantage and the post would be suitable for an ambitious and outstanding NQT. 

Our academic track record within the English department is remarkable and longstanding. Last year 89% of pupils achieved a standard pass or above in English and 77% of pupils achieved a strong pass or above in English. A Level results in 2019 saw over 80% of pupils achieve A*-B grades. At the same time the school offers a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities connected to English to all students, including a thriving Debating Society and team, theatre trips, author visits and much more. 

Sacred Heart Catholic Secondary School, Camberwell, London is one of the leading schools in the country, having finished in the upper reaches of the national league tables for Progress 8 since the measure’s inception. Last year our progress 8 figure was 0.98. 

Additionally, we have in recent years been named best secondary school in the country at the National Pupil Premium Awards at the Houses of Parliament and won three SSAT awards for pupil progress. Furthermore, our headteacher Mr Serge Cefai was nominated for headteacher of the year at the 2018 TES awards.

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

English Teacher 

The following are some of qualities and qualifications we would be looking for in the successful applicant: 

Professional  Qualification

- Qualified teacher status 

- Good English degree 

Training relevant to the role 

- Experience of teaching at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 

Experience 

- Experience of working within a team including designing and developing resources 

- Experience of working with other teachers and support professionals to extend their understanding of educational issues 

- Experience of preparing and leading training sessions is desirable 

- Experience of involvement in extra-curricular activities is desirable 

Knowledge and Understanding 

- Excellent knowledge of the National Curriculum for English at KS3 and of the requirements of GCSE at KS4 and A level at KS5 

-Excellent understanding of the assessment processes at KS3, 4 and 5 and how to use these to support planning and raise student achievement 

- Excellent knowledge of a wide range of pedagogic approaches to cater for different learning styles and ensure that all students are engaged. 

- Excellent understanding of what constitutes effective teaching  for learning  

- Excellent knowledge and understanding of strategies for promoting good relationships with students and effective behaviour management techniques  

- Excellent knowledge of a wide range of software for use with interactive technologies and the application of these to engage and interest students.  

- Excellent knowledge and understanding of how literacy skills are developed in students and the teaching and learning approaches that best support the development of these skills.
