Job overview
The Council of Clifton College invites applications for the role of Executive Head from September 2026 to succeed Dr Tim Greene after 10 years of dedicated service as Head. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead an ambitious strategy of renewal and growth for both Clifton College and the newly established Clifton College Education Group (CCEG).
The College is a leading independent boarding and day school educating over 1,200 pupils aged 3 to 18. Founded in 1862, the College provides an exceptional all-round education that successfully combines a rich heritage with modern state-of-the-art facilities.
Clifton College is dedicated to producing well-rounded individuals through a rich array of opportunities. Our co-curricular activities span from forest school adventures and art clubs to exhilarating rock climbing and CCF. We take pride in our sporting achievements, which reflect our commitment to excellence and camaraderie. Our extensive achievements and calendar in performing arts highlight our dedication to fostering both creativity and academic excellence. Our pupils have seen significant success in gaining admission to international universities, showcasing their preparedness for global challenges. At the heart of it all is a strong community feel, where collaboration and support thrive, making Clifton College a nurturing environment for every pupil to achieve their best.
In July 2022 the ELC Bristol joined CCEG, offering year-round tuition to international students next to the College.
The further growth of CCEG saw the joining of Tockington Manor School; a co-educational independent school for children aged 2-13 based on the outskirts of Bristol in May 2024.
The College continues to develop its future growth through the creation of the Clifton College Education Group (CCEG), and in so doing, looks to strengthen both the educational offering as well as its commercial business. With Clifton College at its centre, Council believes that supporting the growth of the CCEG will enable the school to benefit from opportunities within the evolving education sector and provide a sustainable and effective operating model for the future.
Alongside the provision of education through the CCEG are the growing commercial activities. including a sports centre with gym, a filming location, international summer schools, holiday clubs and a very successful commercial theatre.
The most recent addition to this being the Chellaram Sports Centre providing state of the art facilities for our pupils, the community and even professional sports teams. All of which contribute to the continued growth and success of CCEG.
The Council now seek an inspirational Executive Head who will provide the vision and leadership to further develop both Clifton College and the CCEG as it enters the next stage of its development. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative and forward-looking leader to build upon strong foundations and realise ambitious strategic objectives for the school and wider group. The successful candidate will bring a track record of leadership of the highest quality, strong communication skills and an alignment with the values and ethos of Clifton College.
