Executive Head of Nursery

The Early Years and Childcare Service in Islington is looking for staff to lead and manage some of its council run nurseries which are a key part of our recently transformed Bright Start services for under-fives and families. A reorganisation of early childhood services has resulted in a separation of the responsibilities for early years childcare and education from the other children’s centre services. The new management structure for the five council run children’s centres and one early years centre sees a pairing of nurseries with overall responsibility for childcare and early education overseen by an executive head, supported by a head of nursery.

We are looking for a passionate, dedicated and inspiring leader who can work in partnership with Bright Start colleagues from Children’s Services, other council departments and agencies for the following vacancy:

We need an inspiring and experienced leader ready to take on a new challenge and strategically lead on the planning and provision of high quality childcare and early education across more than one site.

Your vision for direction, leadership and practice will ensure the best possible outcomes for all children and narrow the gap between those children most vulnerable to poor outcomes and the rest. Our aim is that this inspires the development of beacons of early years’ excellence in the Local Authority.

We are looking for an executive head for two nurseries in the first instance, Westbourne Early Years Centre and Bemerton Children’s Centre. Both offer childcare and early education for children from 3 months – 5yrs from 8-6pm all year round.

You will need to have had substantial experience of both delivering and being accountable for driving the improvement of high quality early years practice and provision; the vacancy requires successful candidates to hold either QTS or EYT status.
