Job overview

Executive Headteacher

L40 – L43

Start date: September 2022 or January 2023

Welcome to Northampton International Academy - a local school with a global vision. Part of East Midlands Academy Trust, we are an all-through school that has capacity for up to 2,500 pupils, which makes us the largest free school in England. So we offer a professional opportunity that you won’t find elsewhere.

For the right person this will be a career-defining role. It will suit an accomplished school leader who has a detailed understanding of how to lead school improvement and embed long-term, sustainable good practice into the day-to-day operations of a school. It’s about getting the best from others by setting a definitive sense of purpose and direction, backed up by clarity of accountability and expectations.

In a school of this size we think it’s essential that you already have headship experience. That could be in a primary or secondary setting, but whatever your own professional background it’s important that you offer the breadth of perspective to engage credibly across the age groups, with colleagues as well as with parents and carers.

The school opened in 2016 on the site of a derelict postal sorting office. The new school building was finished in 2018 and the school population has now grown to almost 2,000 students, including its sixth-form provision which came into being in 2019. The school benefits from fantastic facilities: it’s a state-of-the-art educational hub that has transformation in its DNA.

This capacity for change has never been more important as the school and the trust respond to our recent Ofsted judgement which clearly presents the need for improvement in some key areas. This work is already underway, and our new Executive Headteacher will play a central role in building on this work and embedding it into long-term, sustainable improvement.

Closing date: 13th June (10am)

COVID-19 considerations:

We have a comprehensive COVID-19 risk assessment for all on-site working to ensure the health and safety of staff and pupils.

A Note for Recruitment Agencies

We have a team of internal recruiters and we advertise our vacancies to attract candidates and not agency suppliers. If we need agency assistance then we will reach out to our trusted partners. Any speculative CVs we receive will not be accepted as an introduction.

EMAT reserve the right to withdraw this advert early if a suitable candidate is found.

EMAT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). References will be taken up before interviews are offered

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment or age.
