Job overview

Husthwaite & Sessay CE Federation
(Husthwaite CE Primary School & Sessay CE Primary School).

Husthwaite CE Primary School, Low Street, Husthwaite, York  YO61 4QA
Sessay CE Primary School, Sessay, Thirsk, North Yorkshire YO7 3NA
Number on Roll: 54 + 3 in nursery and 81 respectively

The Husthwaite and Sessay Church of England Federation (which federated in October 2016) comprises Husthwaite Church of England Primary School and Apple Tree Nursery and Sessay Church of England Primary School. There is an overwhelming sense of community in the federation, even though the two schools are five miles apart. Each school has extensive outside facilities, provides  extensive extra-curricular opportunities and has a catchment area covering several small villages. Both schools are voluntary-controlled Church schools seeking to serve the needs of our communities. Christian values are at the heart of school life and a collective vision and strong leadership have raised the profile of the Christian character of the schools, which is evident in the impact on both the community and children’s lives and progress.

Currently rated as Good by Ofsted, both schools offer a unique opportunity for an Executive Headteacher to lead, shape and develop our newly formed federation while retaining our shared ethos. Both schools benefit from excellent support, provided by the governors, Diocese and Local Authority Advisors as well as North Star Alliance.

We are seeking to appoint a committed and experienced professional with a remit to further shape our improvement plan while continuing to raise standards by developing the federation and improving partnership working across the two schools and beyond.

In order to succeed, you must be a skilled leader able to set and achieving high standards across the schools while instilling a strong sense of accountability to maximise pupil outcomes.

Effectively the ‘face of the federation’, you must have the ability to effectively promote and develop collaborative working, to communicate and influence across a wide range of audiences and explore  opportunities to develop a MAT.  A motivator and leader, you must have the capability and creativity to build and strengthen teams and achieve the vision of the federation as well as effectively managing finances.
