Executive Principal of Guru Nanak Sikh Academy MAT schools

Reporting to: Board of Directors

Purpose of the post

The executive principal must show her/himself to be an exemplary leader of a Sikh MAT demonstrating an understanding of education based on Sikh Values and traditions developed in consultation with the Nanaksar Thath Isher Darbar faith body and NSO.

The Executive Principal of the Guru Nanak Sikh MAT must demonstrate an unswerving drive to develop all in the MAT to reach the highest standards possible in all areas.

The executive principal will be the leading professional in the Trust and will be working with the Board of Directors to provide the vision, leadership and direction to ensure it is led and managed in such a way that promotes its mission statement.

Responsibilities and Tasks

Working with the board, she/he will be responsible for the continuous improvement in standards in all areas, of staff as well as students, and for ensuring the equality of opportunity for all by upholding Sikh values and ethos

  • Having sound knowledge of the objectives and traditions of the faith body of the Trust (NTIDT)
  • Recognizing the help that can be provided by N.S.O, religious orders, and other Sikh agencies and schools
  • Working towards the development of a culture of inclusion rather than exclusion.

General

  • To ensure, as the Trust’s Accounting Officer and working with the Head of Operations and Finance, Resources and Audit Committee, that the Trust’s financial viability is secure.
  • To ensure as the Trust’s Accounting Officer and working with the Head of Operations, that the budget is managed prudently in line with the Trust’s declared financial objectives
  • Attending and reporting to meetings of the Trust Board and its committees
  • To provide appropriate support and challenge to ensure that educational standards in each school are improved, or maintained at a high level and that each school operates in a way that is in sympathy with the aims and ethos of the Guru Nanak Sikh rooted in Sikh values
  • In consultation with the Board of Directors to develop and lead on implementing curriculum, teaching and learning, safeguarding policies and practices that meet statutory requirements, are relevant to the aptitude and stages of development of all pupils, including those with special needs, and provide for the spiritual, moral, cultural, social and emotional developments of all pupils.
  • To develop and maintain effective relationships with the DFE, RSC and LA working with them to secure and extend the reputation, vision and values of the trust.
  • To assist the Board of Directors in determining the staffing organizational structure for the school
  • To develop and maintain effective strategies for recruitment, induction, professional development and appraisal.
  • To ensure effective planning, allocation, support and evaluation of work undertaken by teams and individuals ensuring clear delegation of tasks and responsibilities
  • To develop and maintain a realistic culture of high expectation for self and others and take appropriate action where necessary
  • To review own practice regularly, set targets and take responsibility for own development.

Trust Wider Responsibilities

  • To work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to ensure the vision and mission statement of the Trust is affected.
  • To lead and line manage the senior leadership team and deploy them to achieve the Trust’s aims, including leading the review and regular updating of the MAT’s development Plan and ensuring it is aligned to the aims and objectives of the trust.
  • To establish leadership of the Sikh community in the development of faith and spiritual life within the MAT.
  • To focus on the education of the whole person – based upon the belief that the human and divine are inseparable and the education of all – within the special duty of care for the poor and the education of those who are socially, academically, physically or emotionally disadvantaged through the experience of life in a community founded on Sikh values.

Ethos and Community

  • To preserve and develop the religious character of the school in accordance with the principles of the faith body (NTIDT), by providing Sikh leadership in the context of Trust’s vision statement
  • To maintain a high standard of behavior in the Trust’s schools supported by policies and practices to promote self-discipline, independence and responsible attitudes.
  • To work with parents and colleagues to support the academic and personal progress of all students in the Trust and to ensure their safety and wellbeing is at a high standard
  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with Gurdwara’s, NSO, the wider Sikh community, other Sikh schools and other schools in the area
  • To build a school culture and curriculum which takes account of the richness and diversity of the school's communities rooted in the Sikh faith
  • To promote and develop the good reputation of the school within the local and wider communities.
