Job overview

  • Teach in an online Learning Environment
  • Senior Schooling
  • Part time teaching available

St John Fisher College is a vibrant and compassionate community that promotes the values of respect, care, integrity, service, excellence and inclusiveness. We strive to give our students the best opportunity for success in life beyond the school gates. We offer a curriculum designed to prepare students for the changing world, set high expectations and utilise innovative pedagogies to achieve successful learning outcomes.

FisherONE is the online learning environment for Brisbane Catholic Education operating out of St John Fisher College in Bracken Ridge, Brisbane. It is designed to meet the needs of Year 11 and Year 12 students who have difficulty accessing specific subjects at their current school and are seeking an online learning option that is delivered with the care, understanding, and connection in a Catholic community.

Interested in becoming a FisherONE Teacher?

FisherONE currently offers subjects in the senior school for students in Years 11 and 12 in BCE schools. Many staff teaching in FisherONE are fulltime BCE teachers, working in Fisher ONE with their Principal’s permission. It is also possible to work outside BCE in a part time capacity. This approach to staffing allows BCE staff the opportunity to remain in their base school and to be able to teach the senior subjects they love.

Mode of Delivery:
The mode of delivery is largely asynchronous, with one “live” virtual lesson per week. Teachers are required to plan courses of work in accordance with the QCAA syllabus, create and curate teaching materials for students to complete independently, deepen knowledge and skills through synchronous lessons, provide feedback that supports students in moving their learning forward and assess and report according to QCAA and BCE processes.

The current load is .2 FTE per class.

Subjects on Offer:
In 2023 the subjects on offer include:
  • Business
  • Design
  • Digital Solutions
  • Physics
  • Japanese
  • Modern History
  • Ancient History
  • Specialist Mathematics
  • Music

From 2024, the intention is for a wide range of General and Applied subjects to be added to this suite, as staff come on board. As this EOI will remain open into the future, an interest in teaching subjects beyond those listed are welcomed.

Skills and Attributes:
Teachers require a broad range of skills to successfully teach senior subjects in an online environment including:

  • Deep understanding of and experience with the subject syllabus
  • Familiarity with QCAA processes for senior general subjects (including completion of QCAA modules 1, 2 and 3)
  • Highly developed skills in the use of Teams and OneNote
  • Technical skills in content creation, curation, and online learning
  • High levels of personal organisation

Additional studies on online education or distance education are highly desirable.

Training and Resourcing:
St John Fisher College will provide induction and training days as well as the structure and support to be successful in the online environment. In addition, for those teachers who live locally, the college has a flipped learning room where teachers can prepare videos for use in the FisherONE classroom.

All staff will be required to complete the mandatory training required of all BCE staff including student protection.
