“Early reading skills are taught effectively in early years and key stage 1. There is a daily commitment to teaching phonics (letters and the sounds that they make) and reading to make sure that pupils become confident and fluent readers. Pupils use their phonics knowledge well to read unfamiliar words and demonstrate a good understanding of books they have read.”
