We are a warm, welcoming primary school in East Oxford providing a happy environment for children to feel safe and motivated to reach their full potential.

This is a senior post within the school’s staffing structure which carries with it membership of the Leadership team. The post holder is accountable to the Headteacher or in their absence, the Deputy Headteacher and will have leadership and management non-contact time as required to carry out duties listed below.

This job description should be read in conjunction with the current School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document and the provisions of that document will apply to the post holder.

The performance of all the duties and responsibilities shown below will be under the reasonable direction of the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher; and the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher, will be mindful of his/her duty to ensure that the employee has a reasonable workload and sufficient support to carry out the duties of the post. This job description will be reviewed at least annually and any changes will be subject to consultation.

In addition to those professional responsibilities which are common to all class teachers and subject co-ordinators, the TLR post holder is also responsible for:

School Improvement: 

  • Lead, manage and develop the curriculum delivered to all pupils in the EYFS.
  • Assist in the develop and implementation of school policies and the school improvement plan.
  • To gather, analyse and evaluate assessment information and evidence of children’s progress to inform provision and practice in a core subject area.

Leading others:

  • Lead and develop the practice of staff working in EYFS.
  • Model and support high quality teaching and learning. 
  • Identify and lead the development of learning and teaching with colleagues – identify CPD needs/ opportunities, co-ordinate peer support.
  • Undertake the role of appraisal reviewer for identified teaching staff.
  • Facilitate EYFS team meetings.
  • Ensure personal professional development by attending appropriate training/ professional development opportunities and keeping up to date with current educational thinking.
  • Establish and maintain links with other agencies in order to develop and enhance the learning and teaching in EYFS.
  • Bring enthusiasm and dynamism to the EYFS.
  • Share responsibility with other senior colleagues and play a key role in the pastoral care and behaviour management across the EYFS supporting colleagues as the need arises.
  • Work with the EYFS team to ensure continuity and progression in the curriculum.
  • Monitor the quality of teaching and learning.

Relevant criteria in the person specification include:

  • Experience of successfully leading others in “however small a capacity”.
  • Ability to recognise high-quality EYFS practice and model this for others.
  • Ability to lead other adults and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the EYFS framework.
  • Knowledge and understanding of how children learn best, including through play.
