Learning Lead for Creativity and Innovation

The new Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan, introduced in September 2019, set in motion the process of review of our taught programmes and the structures through which we support student learning. The role of the Faculty Learning Leader provides a critical middle-leader link between strategic thinking and operational activity.

The Head of School invites suitably qualified and experienced teachers to apply for the following position as leader of the department of Creativity & Innovation which includes Visual Art, Theatre and Music.  The position has arisen due to the internal promotion of the current post holder.

The post requires teaching experience across the full secondary age range in Drama.

  • Closing date for applications: May 19, 2021, although the school reserves the right to interview and appoint as soon as an outstanding application is received.
  • Interviews will be via Zoom.
  • Commencement of duties: August 24, 2021

Participation in a Middle Leadership training programme led by the Director of Learning with the VPs for Learning will be an expectation, as will the satisfactory completion of our standard ECIS Child Protection Level 2 Course.

Job Dimensions, Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Faculty Learning Leader, Upper School

Key Focus

To work constructively with Vice Principals and Senior Leadership to implement the school’s Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan.

To lead and support a faculty team in the development of innovative curriculum plans, teaching and assessment activities;

To make a significant contribution to the school’s strategic action planning process and the life of the school.

Location: Upper School Campus

Line Management:  The position is within the Middle Leadership Team (MLT), working with the VP for Learning and the Director of Learning and Research, and in close liaison with the VP for Wellbeing and other MLT members in Upper School, equivalent Learning Leaders in the Junior School (where appropriate), and the Principal, Upper School.

You report directly to the VP for Learning, Upper School.

Job Dimensions

  • To support the work of the VPs for Learning and Wellbeing, Upper School, and the Director of Learning & Research.
  • To lead a faculty team.
  • You are responsible for supporting and leading staff and students within your area.
  • To teach a reduced timetable.
  • To support the ISF Appraisal Process as a Lead Appraiser.
  • To work to the Accomplished Descriptors and appropriate Lead Descriptors on the Career Development Continuum.
  • To take on one break and lunch duty per week

Essential and Desirable attributes (E/D)

Essential Attributes

  1. A professionally qualified teacher with a first degree, and holds a recognised teaching qualification.
  2. Strong subject knowledge in your faculty areas of learning, with a specialism in drama. (See Standard 2)
  3. An understanding of how we collect and use a range of data to inform learning and direct the work of the faculty team. (Standard 3.6, Standard 5).
  4. You will have some experience of leading and managing people in a variety of contexts, including an understanding of departmental administration.
  5. Significant experience of affecting positive change in a school context.
  6. Ability to demonstrate the capacity to think beyond disciplinary boundaries.
  7. An understanding of, and engagement with, research in education. Participation in the ISF Research Programme is a current or future expectation.
  8. Child protection certificate indicating training at least to Level 2.

Desirable Attributes

  1. Master’s Degree in Education or a subject related to your area of teaching and learning. Willingness to consider this level of qualification with the support of the school.
  2. You will be able to share recent examples of your own professional learning and how you have supported the professional development and training of others.
  3. You will be able to demonstrate pedagogical understanding in an IB context, and a clearly articulated philosophy around what it takes to get the best out of students and their teachers.

Founded in 1952 in Rome, ISF is one of the oldest international schools in Europe. Originally catering to an international, Anglophone community, it had its roots in an American-based curriculum. However, in the more than 50 intervening years, it has grown and changed, developing into a model international school.
