Service Overview

Baston House School is an independent day specialist provider of education in Bromley, Kent for children and young people aged from 5 to 19 years who have been diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC).

For over 16 years Options Autism have provided care and education to children, young people and adults with autism, complex needs and learning difficulties. Job Summary & Duties

As a Family Liaison Officer your responsibilities will be to work with pupils and their families who may be experiencing health, social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Our pupils could potentially be at risk of social exclusion or disaffection which will require you to intervene so that the pupil can thrive and achieve their full potential. This will include promoting good attendance of pupils at school to enable them to learn effectively and to develop socially, emotionally and working with families to help increase their involvement in the education and welfare of their children.

Our ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, committed and flexible and have a love of helping children with special needs to thrive and reach their potential. You will want to inspire and motivate students and will not mind students who are sometimes anxious and show challenging behaviour.

As a Family Liaison Officer, your duties would include:

Undertake an active role in promoting liaison between parents, school staff, community and statutory teams and agencies so that children who are currently experiencing health, social, emotional or behavioural difficulties have improved outcomes

Provide support in co-coordinating, monitoring and evaluating any interventions set up to support the pastoral needs of pupils in the school including the implementation, monitoring and reviewing of Pupil & Family Support Plans (PSP’s)

Support parents with appeals to benefit claims by writing letters of support/reports, under the supervision of the Inclusion Manager.

Actively promote and have commitment to the importance of education and therapeutic intervention for young people and their families

Work in line with GDPR, Information Sharing and Confidentiality protocols at all times when working with vulnerable pupils and families

Key Skills Required:

Demonstrated effective recording and reporting in line with our safeguarding and child protection policies.

Experience of working with young people/young adults with autistic spectrum disorders and/or challenging behaviour.

Ability to recognise the confidential nature of the role and work in line with GDPR policy

Relevant experience of working with families, including parents and pupils and other agencies

A good understanding of child development including the impact of adverse childhood experiences
