Job overview

The successful candidate will have experience in a similar role and be able to demonstrate Strength and Conditioning coaching (with young people), and be a certified and qualified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Working as part of a team, you will be highly motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated to ensuring the best outcomes across football. 

Sport is a major part of both curricular and co-curricular life at the Grange and plays an essential role in the physical, emotional and social development of every student in the school. We are justifiably proud of the facilities, support, expertise and talent provided by the Games and PE Department.


Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the role will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • To facilitate the day-to-day Strength and Conditioning training for our footballers under the guidance of the Director of Sport and other sports leads.
  • To work with our academy footballers. Further details of the Grange Football Academy is available here: https://www.grange.org.uk/about-us/sports-academies/football-academy  
  • To assist with the development of exercise routines, movement patterns and weight training.
  • To lead and manage the strength and conditioning sessions as confirmed by the timetable.
  • With guidance from the Director of Sport to design and implement the strength conditioning and weight training programmes for our footballers. These programmes should be designed to work alongside specific sports performance programmes, to support development while assisting in the reduction of injuries.
  • To communicate with pupils
  • The Strength and Conditioning coach should maintain records of programmes in order to monitor pupil progress. They will need to communicate this information to coaches and if necessary use athlete data in order to assess training programmes’ effectiveness.
  • To manage the space, storage and equipment, ensuring equipment is set-up and put away safely
  • To ensure that while sessions are in practice all pupils and staff are aware of the correct techniques and methods when it comes to strength and conditioning exercises.
  • To help with the writing of the Strength and Conditioning Risk Assessment.
  • To help to maintain strength and conditioning equipment, communicate any suggestions for updates/new purchases, while considering wear and tear. Give guidance to the Director of Sport about all the indoor training and exercising.
  • In order to individualise training programmes and evaluate pupils to help design and perform baseline tests to assess the skills and strengths/weaknesses of pupils


Additional Duties

  • Available to run an enrichment session on Monday evening and Wednesday afternoon
  • Available to take a team on a Saturday.
  • Engage fully in school life.
  • Take additional sessions outside of the school day.

The Grange School has been one of the great success stories of independent education over the past forty years. The school was founded in 1933 as a Kindergarten and Preparatory School. In 1977, the Governors took the major step of developing secondary education and since 1978 the school has grown steadily and developed an outstanding academic reputation. Today, The Grange has a total enrolment of 1223 students with 429 in the Junior School (4-11 years) and 794 in the Senior School. It is consistently one of the best performing schools in Cheshire and undoubtedly among the very best independent co-educational day schools in the country.

Our academic results speak for themselves; we are consistently one of the highest ranking co-educational independent schools in the country. In 2023, 22% of GCSE entries were awarded grade 9. At A Level (in 2023), 21% of entries were awarded an A* grade. Thanks to these excellent results, the majority of our leavers (approximately 75%) go on to join their first-choice university.

More importantly we are a very happy school. The relationship between staff and students is exceptional; although very busy and, at times, pressurised, it is a pleasure to work and study in such a friendly environment. Expectations of teachers and pupils are high, but this serves both to stimulate achievement and provide reward.
