Job overview

Form Tutor, Class Teacher and Subject Lead in P.E.

Calder House is looking to recruit an inspirational classroom teacher to deliver lessons across the KS2 curriculum (including maths, spelling and science) and to lead our PE department. We hope that the successful applicant will be in post by 22 February 2023 but we also invite applications from candidates who are looking to start a new role at the start of the Summer Term.

  • Location: Colerne, Wiltshire (between Bath and Chippenham)
  • Contract type: Full time
  • Contract term: Permanent

About our school: Calder House School leads the field in helping children of average cognitive ability with dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia and other specific learning difficulties to achieve their potential. We take children who have been struggling at school and teach them the skills and strategies they need to successfully return to and thrive in mainstream education. And we get tremendous results. We have just 48 pupils but, while we are small in size, the impact we have on the lives of our pupils is enormous. So, if you are in education to make a real difference to children's lives, Calder House may be the school for you. Calder House has been rated as Outstanding by Ofsted at each of its previous three inspections.

A typical pupil:

  • arrives with an unmeasurable reading age or one that is more than two years behind their chronological age
  • spends just over two years at Calder House
  • returns to mainstream education with a reading age appropriate for their chronological age or (in the case of one in three pupils) an adult reading age

We will be offering a salary that reflects the importance of this role and the experience of the successful applicant.

Applicants should want to work with children who need additional support in order to achieve their potential. Experience/additional qualifications in supporting children with specific learning difficulties is an advantage but not required. Applicants must, however, be qualified teachers – ECTs should not apply.
