Job overview

Reigate Grammar School (RGS), a leading HMC co-educational day school and their partners, Kaiyuan Education, seek to appoint a Founding Head to establish and lead the first RGS school in Nanjing, China. When complete, the school will be a striking 25-acre purpose-built site, in an exceptional location within the dynamic city of Nanjing.

With a phased opening that will begin in September 2019, the Founding Head will develop and bring into reality a compelling vision for a bilingual school for pupils aged 2 to 18 that will blend an exceptional British approach to education with the requirements of the Chinese National Curriculum. Working closely with Kaiyuan Education, and with the support of RGS, the Founding Head will lead a school that secures academic excellence and encourages intellectual enquiry within a holistic, caring and internationally-minded learning community of boarders and day pupils.

The successful candidate will be a strong leader, preferably with a proven track record gained from working in both the UK and China. You will have the desire to work as part of a team and will possess adaptability and resilience, intellect and conviction, cultural sensitivity and an international perspective. You will have the creativity, determination and entrepreneurial spirit required to be a Founding Head and embody all that RGS stands for.

In 2018, Reigate Grammar School UK has entered into an exclusive cooperation agreement in China, granting the latter with exclusive right to open and operate a series of Reigate Grammar accredited bilingual schools in leading cities in China. Bona Sonority School Nanjing (BSSN), formerly known as Reigate Grammar School Nanjing, is a K-12 bilingual school in strategic collaboration and close affiliation with Reigate Grammar School in the UK. It is located at the Qilin Innovation Park in Nanjing on an impressive 100,000 square meter site, making it one of the largest overseas-branded bilingual schools in China.

Our vision is to develop responsible global citizens with a strong sense of their cultural heritage, fully prepared for the competitive marketplace they will join as young adults. “East-meets-West” is a strong theme in the school’s philosophy for education and the curriculum will reflect the coming together of Chinese and British curricula and pedagogical approaches.

As a world class, forward-looking school BSSN will strive to empower students to be creative and innovative leaders and will provide an academic education that open doors of opportunity and extra-curricular experiences to inspire and create pathways to future success.

We believe each child has unlimited potential and his or her own unique blend of talents, skills and aspirations. Appreciating and developing these qualities on the journey from childhood to young adulthood is a privilege and a responsibility that we take incredibly seriously. At BSSN we are dedicated to nurturing each of these abilities to the fullest so that students in our care flourish and their self-esteem grows as they move through the school.

Care and support continues as our students progress to Upper Secondary and train to be mentors themselves. Students relish the chance to give back and encourage younger students in a virtuous circle of support that underpins our community. The journey through the teenage years will bring success, achievement and personal fulfilment. We will be there to share those successes but equally, and more importantly, we will be there to guide and support students through any difficulties and challenges they may face. Safe in the knowledge that we care, students make great progress and discover talents they didn't know they had and achieve more than they ever thought possible.
