Our Results: We have a track record of excellent academic results.  Our 2018 figures were typical: over 40% of GCSE grades were at Grade 7 (A) or higher, and well over a quarter of our students achieved 8 Grade 7/A grades or better.  We have averaged +0.4 for Progress 8 in the three years to date, and have been an SSAT Top 10% school for achievement and progress for the last two years.  At A level (also typical) 67% of grades were at B grade or better, and 80% of vocational outcomes were at Distinction or better.  We secure Oxbridge, Medicine and Vet Science places each year, with the great majority of students going to Russell Group or Top 25 Universities.  We have consistently achieved a ALPS Grade 2 at KS5 and Grade 2/3 at KS4.

Staff Benefits: We appoint on potential as well as experience, and we are committed to supporting staff development.  Several non-teaching colleagues have trained with us as teachers; our rich CPL programme includes full induction for new teaching staff including NQTs, NPQH/SL/ML programmes, and financial support for MA courses, Action Research projects and many other opportunities.  Additional responsibilities are always considered for suitable candidates and we offer NQTs employment for the last few weeks of the summer term.  Our admissions policy includes priority places for the children of all staff*.

Our Location & Community: The school is in beautiful new £48m buildings overlooking the Green Belt.  It is easily accessible from Northern, Piccadilly and Overground rail links and buses run past the entrance.  We attract students from eloquent and supportive communities across North London and Hertfordshire. We are planning an expansion in response to over-subscription.

This Role: We are seeking an excellent teacher who is able to teach both French and Spanish to Key Stage 3 and at least one of these languages to Key Stage 4. The ability to teach Spanish to Key Stage 5 is an advantage but is not essential. 

Students at JCoSS enjoy learning languages, with over 20% of the grades in French, and over 10% in Spanish, at Grade 9 in 2018. The languages taught at JCoSS are Hebrew, French, Spanish and Latin: all students learn French and Hebrew in Year 7 and have the option to swap one of those for Spanish or Latin in Year 8. The Faculty is supported by language assistants for French, Hebrew and Spanish.

The ideal candidate will have proven successful experience of teaching across the full ability range in all Key Stages, and be able to stretch and challenge very bright learners. We are looking for a resilient team player who is a motivated self-starter with creative and engaging lesson ideas.

In 2022 52% of A level grades were at A*or A and 82% of Cambridge Technical grades were Distinction*: overall 61% of the cohort scored at least 3 A grades or equivalent. Half of GCSE grades were grade 7 or higher, with a third of students achieving at least 7 GCSEs at grade 7 or better. Our ALPS grade has been consistently 2 at both A level and GCSE, and our ‘Progress 8’ score is consistently significantly above national average.  Supported by a strong programme, students every year gain places at Oxbridge and for Medical and Veterinary Study, as well as for a wide range of specialisms and competitive courses at prestigious institutions.
