About Kazakhstan International School (KIS)

Kazakhstan International School is a small, growing school with big ideas! Located in Almaty, Kazakhstan’s beautiful former capital, KIS is an International Baccalaureate World School with students and teachers from about 30 countries. We will celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2019.

We offer the IB Primary Years Programme from Early Years through Grade 5, and have Candidate School status for the Middle Years Programme in Grades 6-10. Our exciting, modern new campus will enable us to expand and eventually offer the full IB Programme, including the IB Diploma. Our aim is to fully prepare the children of our multicultural community for the challenges of the fast-changing world in which we live, and to play their part in making the world a better place for everyone.

As part of our growth as a teaching and learning community, we are seeking an enthusiastic and inspirational whole-school French teacher to complement our growing team of multinational, multi-talented teachers. You should be committed to the ideals shared by KIS and the IB, excited by inquiry-based and student-centred education, and eager to seize the opportunities (and accept the challenges) of living in one of the world’s biggest yet least-known countries. Adaptability, open-mindedness, and a sense of humour are key qualities. Knowledge and experience of the IB programme is advantageous but not essential, as we provide regular IB training opportunities. The ability to establish positive working relationships with students, colleagues and parents from around the world is vital. You will need to be able to work with students from Grade 4 to Grade 11 (UK Year 5-12 equivalent), including many who will be learning French for the first time. You will be part of a Modern Foreign Languages team which also teaches Russian and Kazakh; the ability to offer a second foreign language in addition to French will be welcome.

KIS students are independent, creative, socially aware individuals. They are a delight to work with. Our local and expatriate staff form a cohesive team of diverse cultural backgrounds, ages and experiences. We enjoy a close, supportive partnership with our community of parents.

Early applications are recommended, as we may appoint ahead of the closing date if we find an outstanding candidate.

KIS is committed to the safety and well-being of its students. Applicants for this post must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including reference checks with previous employers, providing police clearances from previous countries of employment, and a DBS check or its equivalent.

Further details of the school can be found on our website, www.kisnet.org.

About Kazakhstan International School

KIS: the future starts today!

Located in the lively and beautiful city of Almaty, among the foothills of the snow-capped Tien Shan Mountains, Kazakhstan International School has been educating young people from around the world in a caring and inspirational environment since 1999. We have around 400 students and 50 teachers from over 30 different countries. Working and learning in English supports inquiry-based learning in a warm and supportive atmosphere. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, KIS promotes new perspectives to broaden the minds of the children in our care, and deepen their understanding and appreciation of the world around us that we share.

Kazakhstan International School has expanded rapidly over the past two years, and is now entering a phase of consolidation. Our attractive new campus opened in December 2018. Located on a hilltop in a quiet residential area overlooking the city, the new campus offers an ever-growing range of facilities to enable our children to discover and develop their talents. We are authorized to deliver the IB PYP and MYP, and are in the process of securing authorization to deliver the Diploma Programme from August 2020 onwards. Our aim is to be a leading IB World School for pre-kindergarten children right through to Grade 12 students preparing for university. We support our staff in developing their skills as IB teachers, whatever their prior experience may be.

Our school community is an exciting blend of nationalities, cultures and ethnicities, each contributing to school life. Students are encouraged to take action as a result of their learning at a personal level in their own lives, at home, or in school, through Service as Action. Every student is important to us. Our students are excited to come to school and motivated to question and to grow. They learn to solve problems independently and to work with others to achieve greater goals. We want our young people to look back on their time at KIS as a time when their interest and talents were nurtured and grew, and they become life-long learners who could contribute to their communities and the wider world.

For international teachers, Almaty is a beautiful and welcoming city in which to live, with four distinct seasons to enjoy. Almaty is large enough to offer all the excitement and cultural attractions of city life, yet one can be on the ski slopes of Shymbulak within an hour, or hiking and biking among the hills and mountains, in surroundings of spectacular natural  beauty. As one of the world's largest yet least-known countries, Kazakhstan (along with its Central Asian neighbours) offers vast scope for exploration and adventure - from snowy mountains to spectacular deserts, and from the traditional yurts of the nomads to the historic cities and sites of the Silk Road.

As a school, we aim to help every child to fulfil his or her potential not only academically, but creatively, socially, and as individuals. The new KIS campus provides a beautiful environment in which children of all ages are able to learn, explore and grow. Our family-focused, friendly community continues to grow, too: we look forward to working with you to help make our students' dreams a reality!
