Job overview

General Catering Assistant (Ref 50015)

Hourly rate of pay from £7.97 ph depending on experience

37.5 hours per week for 40 weeks a year (term time plus 4 weeks in the holiday period)

We are a highly respected and successful independent co-educational day and boarding school with over 1,000 students aged from 3-18 located in South Croydon. We are developing our external business events and functions activity to include weddings, christenings and other marketing events, so are looking for additional staff to support this service all year round.

The Catering department (38 staff) provides a daily catering service to staff, pupils and visitors, producing around 1300 lunches each day, and breakfast, supper and all weekend meals during term time weeks for our 160 boarding students. Alongside this regular service, we support a range of school functions and events in the evening and weekends, and are looking to expand this external function activity. Outside term time we provide meals for staff and students staying on site for holiday courses, e.g. language or sports activities.

You should have great communication and customer service skills with a polite, friendly and positive attitude at all times. We pride ourselves on offering a high quality service and want staff who are committed to the highest standards and able to use their own initiative to deliver this. It would be beneficial if you had previous experience in a high-volume catering environment but a strong work ethic, a can-do attitude, and a willingness to pitch in are most important.

Our General Catering Assistants help with serving customers on the front of house area, and assist with cleaning, preparing of the dining hall, servery area and washroom. You will also be helping with washing up of pans, utensils and crockery both by hand and using mechanical equipment.

This exciting opportunity offers excellent benefits which include a discount on School fees, immediate non-contributory pension and free life cover, free car parking, free lunch (when the kitchen is in operation) and the use of our on-site tennis courts and swimming pool.
