Geography Teacher

Part time – 0.6 or 0.8

Salary: MPS Additional responsibility allowances may be available for suitably qualified and experienced candidates

Required for September 2018

Closing Date: 9am Monday, 20th November

Interviews: Wednesday, 22nd November, but we reserve the right to interview before the closing date.

Our Vision: JCoSS is an academic, aspirational learning community, known and respected for our pioneering spirit, our humanity and our excellent outcomes.

Our Ethos: If you think you know what working in a Jewish school might be like, be ready to think again.  Our outward-looking and pluralist Jewish ethos combines an embrace of open-minded values with a deep love of the varied riches of Jewish tradition.  The staff and leadership team includes different faiths, and none, at all levels, and the school has a culture of purposeful good humour and humanity. We are a faith school like no other.

Our Results: We have a track record of excellent academic results.  In 2017 43% of GCSE grades were at A*/A or 9-7, and well over a quarter of our students achieved eight A/7 grades or better.  We have averaged +0.5 for Progress 8 in the three years so far (0.6 in 2017), and were a Top-100 non-selective school nationally in 2015.  At A level 66% of grades were at B grade or better, and 80% of vocational outcomes at Distinction or better; our first full cohort secured several Oxbridge, Medicine and Vet Science places, with the great majority going to Russell Group or Top 25 Universities.  We have consistently achieved a high ALPS Grade 2 at both KS4 and KS5.

Staff Benefits: We appoint on potential as well as experience, and we are committed to supporting staff development.  Several non-teaching colleagues have trained with us as teachers; our rich CPL programme includes full induction for new staff including NQTs, NPQH/SL/ML programmes and financial support for MA courses, Action Research projects and many other opportunities.  Additional responsibilities are always considered for suitable candidates and we offer NQTs employment for the last few weeks of the summer term.  Our admissions policy includes priority places for the children of all staff.

Our Location & Community: The school is in beautiful new £48m buildings overlooking the Green Belt.  It is easily accessible from Northern, Piccadilly and Overground rail links and buses run past the entrance.  We attract students from eloquent and supportive communities across North London and Hertfordshire. We are planning an expansion in response to over-subscription.

This Role: We are looking for a talented and creative Geographer who exudes passion for their subject. You will be an excellent classroom practitioner who wants to collaborate with a forward thinking team within an outstanding faculty. You will have a keen focus on student progress and bring energy and enthusiasm to the role. The ability to teach to A Level is an advantage, but not essential. Additional responsibilities may be available for suitably qualified and experienced candidates, and we offer NQTs employment for the last few weeks of the summer term.  The post could become full time for a candidate able to offer another suitable subject.

JCoSS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all its staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All posts are subject to satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) clearance.

For information, including an application pack, please click quick apply or to arrange a confidential conversation, please contact Lara Samuels on recruitment@jcoss.barnet.sch.uk or 020 8344 2220
