Girls PE Teacher (Maternity)
Full time, maternity contract
Salary: Qualified teaching pay scale between M1 and UPS3 (£22,917 and £38,633)
Contract start date: 1 September 2018
Canon Slade School are seeking to appoint a teacher of Girls Physical Education in this very popular and successful Church of England secondary school of 1,700 students (335 in the Sixth Form) and would welcome applications from both NQTs and experienced teachers who are looking to broaden their experience in an 11-18 school. This is a maternity contract which will start on 1 September 2018 and end on the return of the current post holder.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative team player with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to achieving high standards within a successful department. The candidate should be an excellent classroom practitioner, have enthusiasm for their subject and be capable of teaching examination PE across our full age and ability range including the Sixth Form. Knowledge of GCSE and BTEC PE would be desirable but not essential. A job description and person specification for this post are attached.

In September 2013 from the Ofsted schools competitive sports survey Canon Slade PE department was identified as being in the top 10 state schools nationally.
The department offers its students a very comprehensive programme of “Extra-Curricular Activities” and “Interform Activities” and is very proud of the fact that no one is precluded from all the activities available.
The school’s sports teams regularly compete to national level in six sports:
• Cross Country
The school has been National Champions in basketball, biathlon, cross country and tennis and in 2017 the School Sports Magazine survey identified Canon Slade PE department as being in the top 25 state schools in national competitions. The school has hosted English Schools National Cross Country events and Greater Manchester Cross Country championships. Canon Slade boasts its own Cross Country Course and in September 2018 will host the Northern Schools Cross Country race.
The department regularly achieves excellent results generally achieving 100% pass rate at AS Level, high 3 at A2 and 80% plus pass rate at GCSE. Canon Slade has one of the most successful
A Level departments in the school with very knowledgeable staff having exam board experience.
The PE department offers the following facilities:
• Sports Hall (4 badminton courts)
• Fitness suite
• Outdoor tarmac area (5 tennis courts & 4 netball courts)
• Full size astro-turf
• 16m swimming pool
• Extensive fields (4 football pitches, rugby pitch, athletics areas, long and triple jump facilities and numerous rounders pitches)
