Sport plays a very important part of life at St Mary’s Calne and, in recent years, the school has enjoyed a strong and improving reputation for success. For September 2020 we are looking for a talented and enthusiastic graduate, and keen athlete, to join us as Graduate Assistant (Hockey).
Attached to one of our Boarding Houses, the Graduate Assistant will be responsible for assisting the House team in all aspects of the girls’ welfare and pastoral life. You will share the administrative, supervisory and pastoral duties with the team, and will provide some evening and weekend duties, taking part in supervising and organising a range of trips and activities. You will have a confident, well-rounded personality, be flexible, sensible, energetic and a good communicator.
As Graduate Assistant (Hockey) you will report to the Director of Sport and be involved in the coaching and umpiring of Hockey across all age groups. You will be solely responsible for at least one team although there may be times when there is a requirement to be in charge of other teams on Saturday match afternoons. You will contribute to the PE Department carrying out some administrative functions and during the summer term, will be expected to help out with either Tennis, Athletics and/or Cricket.
St Mary’s Calne boasts excellent sporting facilities. We have seven hard tennis courts and netball courts, a full-size floodlit Astro which provides an additional twelve tennis courts in summer, and two lacrosse pitches. The Sports Centre provides a Sports Hall with four badminton courts/basketball or netball court, a dance studio, a fitness suite and a six-lane indoor swimming pool. Additional grass facilities are used locally, offsite.

St Mary’s Calne is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18, a happy, purposeful and flourishing community of around 360 pupils with a 80% to 20% boarding to day ratio.
