Job overview

The Graduate Musician in Residence will be an advanced performer with superb accompanying skills and a genuine enthusiasm for working with young musicians in their role of providing advice and coaching at a variety of levels.  Our music department is a busy but friendly one, involving frequent rehearsals and concerts as well as a high number of girls taking exams and diplomas. To a certain degree, the role can be tailored to individual skills and future aspirations and the post holder will be encouraged to pursue and develop their strengths and interests. The ability to assist with other musical disciplines e.g. theory, aural, and choirs will also be a great asset; as will a willingness to work flexible hours during term time – including rehearsals for the Association Choir (parents and friends of the school) and assisting the Director of Music in preparation for the school Musical. Applicants should also expect to be involved for an additional five days during the Easter holidays as part of the prestigious Jennifer Bate Organ Academy that takes place at St Catherine’s School each year.

Strong sight-reading skills are essential, as is a sense of humour and willingness to be part of a very friendly and supportive team – whose work centres around the girls’ enjoyment and musical development.

Although much of the work will be based in the Senior School (ages 11-18), the person appointed should enjoy working with young people across the 4-18 age range and also possess solid ICT skills as well as a readiness to see what needs doing and to do it.

St Catherine's School, Bramley, an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 4 -18. Founded in 1885, the school enjoys over a century of tradition and prides itself on its own very special blend of academic excellence and pastoral care.
As a girls' school St Catherine's ensures that its students develop in an environment which suggests to them in everything they see around them that there is nothing that a woman cannot achieve.

They gain a balanced view of the world and their place in it and, with that sense of fearlessness and security, and the confidence it generates, I believe that St Catherine's girls will continue to be very well placed to pursue their education when they leave school at eighteen as sensible, caring and competent young women who will have much to offer in life.
Academic results are important - the school is comfortably placed in the infamous league tables - but we believe that there is much more to an all round education for the young women of the 21st century. The breadth of opportunity afforded to our students and the special atmosphere of support and encouragement which is the hallmark of the school allow St Catherine's to enjoy a reputation as a happy school for bright girls. The philosophy that happiness at school is the key to success and enjoyment for every individual underpins everything we do.
