Job overview

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Sports Graduate to join us in September 2023 to July 2025. You will be living onsite and working closely with the Sports Department and our various Boarding Houses to support sports activities throughout the School. These posts offer candidates with an interest in education/coaching an excellent opportunity for career development within this leading girls’ independent boarding school.

The Graduate Sports Assistants will undertake a full range of activities in the School including coaching a variety of sports, supporting our wellbeing initiatives and carrying out some boarding duties. You will work well as part of a team and the role will involve a full teaching timetable across a variety of sports. A specialism in Swimming, Cricket or Hockey would be advantageous. The job involves teaching the curriculum, coaching teams, and attending fixtures. Working with the Sports Department will include evenings and weekends.

In return, we offer fully funded accommodation, and a salary of £16 - £17k per annum.

Situated in the town of Thatcham, in Berkshire, Downe House is an independent secondary school for girls aged between 11 and 18. It is both a day and boarding school. There are around 580 students enrolled at the school, the majority of whom are boarders. Downe House School was established in 1907 in Charles Darwin’s formal home. It is located on 110 acres of land. There are 12 houses for those living on the campus. One of the houses is located in France where year eight students have the opportunity to spend a term.

The welfare of pupils is at the heart of all the work that is done and the systems that are in place to support this aim. The headmistress is the designated person in charge of child protection and works closely in this area with other members of the leadership team. Good attention is paid to overall health and safety matters supported by robust policies and comprehensive risk assessments.”
