Latymer Upper School is a lively and energetic independent day school in West London; educating approximately 1,200 highly able and academically ambitious students in exceptional surroundings. The School is extremely popular and attracts more than 1,300 applications each year at 11+ and a further 200 at Sixth Form.
If you are excited by Biology and by engaging with some of the brightest and most ambitious students around, then a teaching career at Latymer could be for you. The department’s approach to the teaching is very much focused on encouraging engagement with the natural world and human physiology, as well as developing genuine understanding of scientific phenomena and methodology, rather than simply rote learning information. Staff actively discuss the subject and its teaching both informally in our departmental office and in weekly Biology meetings. The department currently consists of seven specialist biologists and two full-time technicians.

Latymer Upper School’s ethos is as strong today as it was almost 400 years ago when The Latymer Foundation at Hammersmith came into being. Our story starts in 1624 when a prosperous lawyer, Edward Latymer, left part of his wealth for the clothing and education of “eight poore boyes” from Hammersmith.
Edward Latymer's vision was to offer his wards a life-changing education that would equip them to flourish in the wider world. This vision remains firmly at the heart of the School - although we now teach rather more than those original eight Hammersmith boys. The Latymer of today consists of a vibrant, co-educational student body of 1,200 girls and boys from all over West London and beyond, and a further 167 pupils at Latymer Prep.
