Group Vice Principal for Quality of Education

Cornwall CollegeCornwall

Job description

The Cornwall College Challenge – do you want to join us?

Are you an aspiring Principal or perhaps a highly effective senior manager that is looking for their next step and challenge?

This is not your average Vice Principal role. It is a Group Vice Principal (GFE) that has the huge challenge of being responsible for the Quality of Education two main GFE campuses in St Austell and Camborne and the specialist marine provision in Falmouth. On top of this the post holder will have cross college responsibility for the quality of teaching, learning & assessment.

Cornwall College is a large FE College with 10 sites spread across Cornwall and Devon. The College is approximately 60% GFE and 40% Land based education.

The College has a clear strategy to become a college of choice for learners across Cornwall under our new Principal John Evans. We have made excellent progress to date on rapidly improving our learner experience and outcomes through relentless focus on teaching, learning and assessment and meeting all learners’ needs.

Our recent Ofsted monitoring visit identified that the College has made significant progress since the last inspection. The report outlines that leaders have high expectations and that there has been significant investment in improving staff skills and qualifications and recognises the positive impact the new leadership team are having for staff and learners. Our staff and learner surveys for last year also endorse the College as a great place to work and learn.

Transforming the organisation will be an exciting journey and we are looking for an inspirational Senior Manager for the GFE provision to come and be part of the journey.

This post therefore, is an amazing opportunity for the right candidate to make a real impact in the sector. If you feel you have what it takes then we want to hear from you!

Applications are via our website. Interviews will be held on 27th September in Cornwall.

We have excellent terms and conditions of employment. We offer access to generous occupational pension and annual leave schemes, including a paid Christmas closure of two weeks. We have flexible and supportive family friendly working practices with a range of contracts available. We have a range of staff development activities available and all employees have access to free tuition on many of our courses. We also have a staff benefit scheme offering a wide range of discounts online and in the high street. We offer a range of health and wellbeing initiatives to our employees including access to free counselling and a corporate eye care scheme. Most of our campus sites offer free parking to employees as well as discounted restaurants and salons.

Message From John Evans – Principal and CEO

Thank you for your interest in joining the Cornwall College Group.

I joined the Group in September 2019, I have been really inspired by the way staff have adapted to the new challenges. In the past the College has had difficulties which took away the focus from teaching and learning. The College has now has no debt, a robust budget and has secured significant investment to improve its infrastructure on many of the 10 sites. The college can now work confidently towards being a quality provider of further & higher education in Cornwall & Devon. This is a really exciting time to join the Cornwall College Group.

I have worked in the FE sector for over 30 years and have been part of taking 4 Colleges to “Outstanding”. I am confident that we will do the same here in Cornwall, the work has already begun. My philosophy is simple, we put the learner at the heart of all decision making with an unrelenting focus on the quality of education and the learner experience.

I am really enjoying living and working in Cornwall. It really is a wonderful lifestyle in a beautiful part of the UK. If you want to know more about this role please feel able to contact me via Jayne Ninnes HR Director (07795 645637 or jayne.ninnes@cornwall.ac.uk) and we can discuss the role in more detail.
