Job overview

Old Palace of John Whitgift School, part of The Whitgift Foundation, is a unique Church of England school in an inspiring setting which is steeped in history dating back to the 9th century. This rich heritage and the magnificent historic buildings provide a stimulating backdrop for a 21st century, broader values-based education, defined by a commitment to both academic excellence and the development of happy, confident and independent learners. The school operates across two sites in Croydon, educating girls aged 1 to 18 years and boys aged 1 to 4 years.

The Whitgift Foundation is now seeking an experienced leader for September 2019 following the retirement of the current Head, Mrs Carol Jewell, after eight years of highly successful headship and 22 years of dedicated service to the school. This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Foundation and Governors to build on the highly regarded ethos and strengths of the school.

The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with the imagination, energy and strategic capabilities to define an ambitious and successful future for Old Palace. Significant senior leadership experience, a track record of developing high performing teams and the warmth and charisma to be a compelling ambassador for the school in a competitive market will all be crucially important. A proactive willingness to embrace wholeheartedly the many benefits of being part of the Foundation is essential, as is a genuine resonance with Old Palace’s distinctive aims and ethos.
