Job overview

King Edward’s School Witley is a co-educational HMC school educating over 400 day and boarding pupils aged 11 to 18 in rural Surrey. With strong and historic links to the City of London, and a distinctive ongoing mission to support the less advantaged, King Edward’s offers its diverse pupil population a broad, holistic and outward-looking education in a caring and inclusive environment. Its young people from a range of backgrounds and nationalities learn the values of intellectual curiosity, service to others, confidence, resilience and a truly global perspective.

Following the appointment of John Attwater as Principal of King’s Ely, the Court of Bridewell seeks an outstanding educational leader to guide King Edward’s through the next critical phase in its development. Building on a strong platform financially, educationally and operationally, the next Head will develop and deliver a vision that ensures the School looks to the future with dynamism and ambition.

The appointee will be an inspiring leader with the vision, strategic capabilities and drive to position King Edward’s as a leading 21st Century independent school. A compelling communicator, the next Head will be a highly visible leader, with the strength of intellect, collegiality and gravitas to work well with a committed staff team and with Governors and other stakeholders. The Head will also act as Principal of Bridewell Royal Hospital, which incorporates Barrow Hills Preparatory School alongside King Edward’s. An understanding of the demands of leadership in a boarding environment gained through some experience is important, as is a genuine resonance with King Edward’s’ aims, values and Founding mission.
