Job overview

Stroud School is a thriving and happy co-educational preparatory school, set in 22 acres of beautiful Hampshire countryside on the edge of Romsey, educating some 325 children aged 3 – 13 years of age.

In May 2012, Stroud became the preparatory school for King Edward VI School in Southampton.  Proud of its rich heritage, the School today offers a modern and vibrant education based on a commitment to academic excellence through individualised learning, an inspiring outdoor education programme and a wide-ranging co-curricular offering which allows pupils to find their passions.  Stroud is a true preparatory school which provides a personalised, family environment that aligns with the ‘Stroud Spirit’ of encouraging curiosity, collaboration, courage, independence, leadership and communication.

The Head and Governors of King Edward VI and Stroud School are now looking for a new Head of Stroud for September 2020 to enhance the quality and rigour of teaching, learning and assessment whilst nurturing Stroud’s familial ethos.  The next Head will need to bring drive and ambition to Stroud, alongside the ability to inspire and lead the whole school community with confidence, ideas and a genuine passion for preparatory education.

This role offers a truly exciting opportunity to shape the future strategy of Stroud within the context of the King Edwards family.  The role will require someone committed to the long-term vision of both schools and who sees the clear benefits of playing a key and influential leadership role within a 3 – 18 model for education.  This person will be committed to developing communication and collaboration between the two schools during an exciting and evolving period over the next few years.

Stroud, King Edward VI Preparatory School, is a thriving and happy co-ed independent school for pupils from Nursery to Year 6, and is the feeder school to King Edward VI, Southampton. The prep school enjoys the many benefits of being part of a 3-18 organisation whilst retaining a unique identity as a rural school with a strong family feel.

Our ethos is to nurture and support our pupils, so that they flourish and exceed their expectations in their learning, interests, relationships and emotional development. Our goal is that they become intellectually curious, resilient, confident and ready for their next steps.

Pupils have access to a wide range of high quality learning resources at Stroud including a well-stocked library, science laboratory, IT suites, cookery, art, technology and music rooms. Interactive whiteboards, iPads, virtual reality headsets and green screens also enhance pupils’ learning.

Stroud is a warm and welcoming place to work and develop as an individual and leader. We encourage staff to take on positions of responsibility and value our staff highly for going above and beyond to support the wider life of the school.

Due to our rural location we cannot easily be accessed by public transport, so staff do need their own transport. On site parking is available.

Stroud School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
