Job overview

The Board of Governors of The Study Preparatory School invite applications for the role of Head to succeed Mrs Susan Pepper in September 2020, who retires then after ten years of exemplary, dedicated service.

The Study Preparatory School is a leading London all-girls’ prep school, educating each year about 320 pupils aged 4 to 11.  Located in leafy Wimbledon Village close to the Common, The Study is an innovative and forward-looking school with an atmosphere of warmth, openness and inclusivity where girls feel secure and highly valued through exceptional pastoral care.  The Study is proudly non-selective at 4+, and this inclusive ethos permeates through the school where girls are respectful and considerate to one another.  Through excellent teaching, a vibrant and stimulating learning environment, and the encouragement of individual talents and interests, The Study ensures that every girl feels special and an important part of the whole school.

The Study has two sites; Wilberforce House, for girls from Reception to Year 3, and Spencer House, for girls from Years 4 to 6, which was successfully refurbished in 2017.  Committed to continuous improvement, The Study has now commenced the development of Wilberforce House, to modernise and enhance its facilities in order to provide the best possible educational environment for pupils.  Fostering in its girls a very clear sense of community as well as self-confidence, The Study prepares them well for the challenges of senior school, one of many aspects praised in its recent outstanding ISI report.  Study girls regularly receive scholarships to the leading secondary schools in London and further afield, with 39 awards last year alone.

The Governors of The Study now look to appoint a new Head with the ability to inspire the whole school community and successfully lead The Study through the next exciting phase of its development whilst nurturing the School’s distinctive ethos.

The Study is a renowned prep school for girls in South West London. We pride ourselves on our reputation for academic and creative excellence, and while we place a clear focus on educational achievement, we believe learning means so much more.

We are a creative and progressive school, always nurturing and proud to be non-selective at Reception. Our ethos centres around our four values – compassion, curiosity, creativity and courage – which encapsulate what it really means to be a Study girl.

We aim to achieve more for our girls than just an excellent education, always striving to reach high, promoting creativity and individuality as we help every Study girl become the very best she can be.

Our creative approach to education is designed to encourage a natural curiosity that provides the best foundation for later learning. We champion the importance of emotional wellbeing, kindness, friendship and respect for others. Through a nurturing environment we strive to produce well-rounded, confident and caring girls.

Our pupils go on to leading senior schools and 2022 has been another very successful year for the Year 6 leavers, with 31 scholarships offered by leading senior schools.
