Tes is currently supporting a friendly and supportive mainstream independent school; based in Bedford. The school is looking to add a Head of Academic Drama to its progressive and supportive Performing Arts Department ideally starting in September 2021.
The role will include managing the delivery of Academic Drama at KS3, GCSE and A-level across year groups 7 to 13. You will lead your department to enhance provision and will get the chance to lead on exciting project work throughout the year. Project work may include revising schemes of work and ensuring the curriculum is engaging to all learners alongside projects that support student attainment, well-being and engagement within the wider school.
“Our School is an HMC Independent Co-educational Day School located on the outskirts of Bedford. Our facilities are excellent and include a separate Junior School, dedicated Sixth Form building, purpose built Science Centre and extensive sports facilities. The School offers a premium education, with a wide and varied curriculum, that is responsive to the needs of pupils and parents, where the intellectual needs of each pupil is given priority. We are seeking suitably experienced applicants able to lead, promote and manage the development of curriculum Drama.
Reporting to the Director of Performing Arts, you will be responsible for the strategic direction of Drama within the school. You will have experience of teaching Drama at both GCSE and A-Level and have extensive experience of directing productions involving young people.
The successful applicant will have a genuine love of theatre and performance, the ability to inspire and motivate and a passion for teaching and directing ambitious productions.
Whilst this post is being offered as full time, we would also consider applicants wishing to work 0.8FTE.

The school expects:
• A UK teaching qualification such as PGCE/PGDE, SCITT, BEd or MEd with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• a relevant Drama Degree or a related subject
• experience of delivering Drama up to A-level pushing and engaging learners to progress within the subject
• experience managing a department: specifically people and financial management
• a love and passion for education.
