The Head of Agriculture assumes overall responsibility for the effective and successful planning, management and operation of the Agriculture program and Sturt Grove farm for students Years 9 - 12. Reporting directly to the Director of Learning, the Head of Agriculture is responsible for all aspects of learning, teaching, assessment, monitoring and curriculum in their respective subject area. The Head of Agriculture supports the Director of Learning in her/his responsibilities of what students learn (curriculum), how they learn (pedagogy) and for monitoring and improving student learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure appropriate curriculum and course development across the learning area
  • Lead learning area staff to develop and employ highly effective pedagogical practices
  • Lead the learning area staff to assess, evaluate and improve student learning outcomes
  • Lead and manage learning area staff
  • Lead the development of Agriculture across the School with regular reviews
  • In conjunction with the Director of Learning, ensure Preparatory School students gain access to Agriculture teaching and learning
  • Contribute to evaluating the effectiveness of Agriculture focused teaching and learning by work analysis and use this to guide future improvements

     

Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and an experienced Agriculture Teacher
  • Current (or ability to attain) SA Teacher Registration
  • Exemplary classroom practitioner with a proven record of student outcomes
  • A leader in exceptional pedagogy and curriculum who will reinvigorate the curriculum
  • Previous experience in leading projects and change management
  • Proven experience in leading and managing people
  • Demonstrated ability to make links with Primary levels (Year 7 in particular) and have a ‘whole-school’ focus
  • A sound understanding of STEAM/STEM and experience in its implementation
  • High level understanding of SACE and SACE modernisation
  • High level of ICT skills, knowledge and incorporation into classroom practice
  • Involvement at SACE level (moderation and marking) is desirable
  • Regular and up to date professional knowledge and learning
  • Accreditation as a Highly Accomplished or Lead Teacher (or working towards) will be viewed favourably

Academic Overview 

At Westminster, we aspire to  provide every student with an exceptional all-round education. We are a leader  in education and offer an extensive range of subjects (currently around 40 in  Year 12).  

The Melbourne Declaration, made by all  Australian Education Ministers in 2008, set two goals to be met; the first that  Australian schooling promotes equity and excellence; the second that all young  Australians become successful learners, confident and creative individuals,  active and informed citizens. 

Everything we do here at Westminster aligns with  these basic principles.  Our curriculum gives students every  opportunity to achieve their own excellence. We continually revitalise our curriculum  across all year levels to ensure it is current and relevant, addresses the  capabilities required by ACARA (Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting  Authority) and meets the requirements of the SA Certificate of Education (SACE)

As  students progress through school, they need greater choice to create their own  adventures.  Additionally, we need to account for students  who perform at different levels by continuing to support and challenge them with  tailored learning plans.
