We are looking for an exceptional Head of Art at a school based in the London Borough of Hillingdon. This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher looking to take their career to new heights. 

We are looking for driven and determined Art & Design/Photography teachers who want to work within a supportive London academy. We seek talented individuals who feel confident and able to teach a group of independent and imaginative students and lead them to academic success.

Role Summary

The Curriculum Leader manages the performance of the department of a specific subject area and ensures staff comply with the standards set at national, local and school level.

The Head of Department role combines a teaching role with staff development responsibilities.

Strong time management and prioritisation skills are required to be successful in both elements of this role.

Key Tasks and activities:

• Act as an expert in a subject area providing support and advice to the Senior Leadership Team, and other teaching staff.

• Encourage interaction and teamwork within the department sharing ideas and new initiatives identifying new ways of teaching their subject area.

• Monitor the work of teachers within the department offering guidance and support where required and helping them to identify improved ways of working.

• Assist in the performance management of teachers within the department looking for ways to develop individuals.

• Develop the department programme/curriculum i.e. curriculum, standards, target setting, assessment and reporting.

• Draw up the Department Development Plan in accordance with the School Development Plan.

• Take responsibility for department resourcing and timetable allocation.

• Keep up to date with curriculum developments which affect their department ensuring that all members of the department are aware of new initiatives and how they are going to be implemented in the department.

• Look for ways to create interest from pupils in their subject area and raise standards of attainment.
