This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the leadership of a forward thinking and evolving international school as it enters an exciting new phase of development.

In August 2017 the school began a journey toward excellence. With an aim to become recognized as a leading school across China and internationally, the school has initiated a number of strategic projects. The position of Head of Boarding and Student Wellbeing is a new Senior Leadership role within the school that forms an important part of the schools next strategic steps.

From August 2018 the school will relocate into a new first class campus with state of the art learning spaces and boarding facilities and will expand into Primary School Grades 1 to 5 and introduce the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).

The school will also begin working toward membership and accreditation by the Council of International Schools and the authorization and implementation of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and College Board Advanced Placement courses.

Shenzhen is a dynamic and creative city of South China, set in beautiful tropical green surroundings within a futuristic and modern yet safe, family friendly city. Directly linked to Hong Kong only 45 minutes away, Shenzhen is an artistic and tech hub founded on innovation and creativity. This Pearl River Delta megalopolis is one of China’s richest cities, having grown from 30,000 inhabitants in 1980, when it was designated the first special economic zone, to a population of almost 12 million.

In 2008, Shenzhen was named a UNESCO Creative City of Design. The city continues to thrive as a leader of arts and creativity. The modern inner city is surrounded by palm-studded districts of gated communities, beautiful parks and former industrial buildings turned into contemporary art districts, cafes, restaurants, boutiques and high-ceilinged galleries.

The Role

The Head of Boarding and Student Wellbeing will provide direction, inspiration and guidance to our Boarding and teaching staff including staff development, performance management and deployment.

The Head of Boarding and Student Wellbeing will provide effective leadership and support to staff, students and parents while inspiring an atmosphere of energy, excitement and high achievement.

Focused on developing a high performing learning community, the successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic development and day-to-day operations of the Boarding School. This will include the design and leadership of a highly effective residential programme.

In addition the Head of Boarding and Student Wellbeing will create an inspiring and motivating programme of social and emotional development for all students from Grades 6 to 12.

Candidate Profile

The school is seeking a highly experienced leader, who has the required knowledge and skills to lead and develop this aspect of the school. The school values candidates who can demonstrate a dynamic, forward thinking mindset and the ability to establish and maintain a positive, internationally minded and collaborative environment that ensures high academic standards and student achievement.

A minimum of 5 years’ experience of leading an international boarding school is essential. As is an excellent understanding of international school standards and experience with the IB Diploma Programme.

A one page statement of educational and leadership philosophy. A good recent head and shoulders photograph and the email and telephone contact details of 3 professional references, one of which must be your current Head of School.

The review of applications will begin immediately on receipt. Initial interviews will take place on a rolling basis via Skype and so early application is encouraged. Final shortlisted candidates will be invited to Shenzhen to visit the school and participate in final interviews in January or February 2018.
