At TSAT we have fully centralised our business functions, delivering Finance, HR, Governance and Compliance, Facilities, Technology and Marketing services to all schools within the Trust.  We are proud of the expert support, advice and guidance we provide to our schools and are looking for the right candidate to join our Service Delivery team, as the HBO to our Portsmouth Schools.

Within Portsmouth, we have a mix of infant, junior and primary schools that operate under 3 Headteachers as 3 effective all-through Primaries, in addition to a single Secondary School.  These schools make up the Portsmouth Hub within TSAT, a Trust with a further 10 schools across the South of England based in Kent and Plymouth.  And we are a Trust that is continuing to grow!

Each Headteacher within the Hub reports to the Director of Education and the HBO will need to build a strong working relationship with each of these leaders, ensuring they have the support needed to focus on delivering excellent teaching and learning in their schools.

The Portsmouth HBO will need to work equally with both school leaders and central service teams, to support the strategic development of each Academy and ensure central services meet the TSAT service values of being Trusted, Solution Focused, Approachable and Timely.

The HBO will receive expert support from each of the central service teams but must have a sound working knowledge of business management within an education setting.  You will be responsible for ensuring the working relationship between each Academy and Central Service is a success.  You must be well-organised, able to manage projects and co-ordinate teams effectively, and clearly communicate the needs of the Academy to achieve the desired aims.

The HBO will lead on strategic financial and workforce planning, ensuring the best use of resources for the best outcomes.  You will work with key members of each central service, known as the Portsmouth Hub Drive Team, to ensure high quality services are delivered to academies within the hub.  You will also lead on monitoring of Risk Management for each Academy, working with other key stakeholders to minimise or mitigate risk.

Each Academy reports to a collective Hub Finance and Operations Committee and the HBO will be the lead officer for this, informing governors of key activities and updates, three times a year.

We believe strongly in nurturing children throughout their time at The Portsmouth Academy to build positive habits, develop an awareness of their strengths and support them in developing areas they would like to improve. We work with our students so that they are aspirational and ready for their next steps and, most importantly, understand their role and place both within their local community and beyond.

“The curriculum is well designed and well considered. The intention of the curriculum is to transform the life chances of pupils in the school. The ambition, breadth and content of the curriculum contribute to this intention. Curriculum development is purposeful and ongoing” – Ofsted, 2022

The Academy is focused on providing an inclusive education for all children and ensuring that every child has access to the same opportunities. The Portsmouth Academy’s vision and ethos is rooted in developing aspirational and self-reflective learners who are able to think for themselves and be valuable members of their community. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum in both KS3 and 4, placing significant importance on cultural capital alongside academic achievement.

The Portsmouth Academy is a “Microsoft Showcase School” due to our approach to digital learning. The academy has launched a one:one device policy, so every child in Year 7 and Year 8 has their own laptop, and we are particular interested in finding teachers who have experience of, or would like to develop experience of, teaching with technology.

Tours of the school are highly recommended. To arrange a tour please email Nicky Brown Nicky.Brown@tpa.tsat.uk

At The Portsmouth Academy, we are a proud member of the Thinking Schools Academy Trust. This enables us to create a unique offer for children: an "all-through" educational journey in which they remain with the same family of schools throughout their education. We are committed to the ethos of excellence and a whole school approach to the teaching of thinking skills.

We are one of five primary schools and one secondary school in Portsmouth to benefit from Thinking Schools' award-winning resources, curriculum, and collaboration opportunities.

Thinking Schools Academy Trust

The Thinking Schools Academy Trust is a family of schools consisting of both primary and secondary schools across Kent, Hampshire and Plymouth.
