Job overview

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is a high performing local authority where education remains a priority for Elected Members. Leading up to the retirement of our current Head of Service, we are looking for someone who is passionate about education with a proven track record in leadership and school improvement.

As Head of Children and Young People, Education and Schools you will lead our Improvement and Learning Service (Schools and Early Years) and a range of other services that support education and learning in schools and settings across the East Riding.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has driven forward its "Improving Schools - Improving Lives" strategy and we have achieved significant progress in our ambitions for children and young people. Education in the East Riding is provided by 150 schools of which 10% are academies. The council continues to invest in the school-led East Riding School Improvement Partnership which has overseen a sustained improvement in the performance of our schools in recent years.

You will lead and shape our service as the educational landscape continues to change. You will work with schools as we seek to improve the educational outcomes for our most vulnerable groups of children and young people, raising ambition and aspiration across our communities. You will have the drive, vision and resilience needed to address the challenges facing our school community and you will need to be creative and innovative as you lead the local response to changes in national policy and education funding.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. This council is pursuing equality of opportunity in employment.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Kevin Hall, Director of Children's Services on (01482) 392001.
