Head of Computer Science

Ipswich High SchoolSuffolk

Ipswich High School seeks to appoint an outstanding, passionate and dynamic classroom practitioner as Head of Computer Science with effect from 1st September 2021.  The successful applicant will be required to teach Computer Science at both GCSE and A-Level.

In addition to finding an outstanding teacher, we are seeking to appoint an individual who is excited by the opportunity to build on the department’s successes to date and has a clear vision for how this will continue during the coming years.

Located on an idyllic 87-acre campus on the banks of the River Orwell, Ipswich High School enjoys an enviable reputation of delivering outstanding academic results whilst maintaining a warm, welcoming and happy community of approximately 440 pupils, aged 5-18.

Working at Ipswich High School suits those who have a genuine commitment to both the academic and personal development of young people as well as the willingness to contribute to the wide co-curricular and community activity of our school.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join our ambitious, friendly and caring community of staff and students and enjoy teaching small classes (usually 10-15 pupils) of polite, respectful and hardworking pupils as well as benefiting from terms and conditions which include a maximum of 80% directed teaching time and 18 weeks holiday per year.

Please note, although we are a boarding school and very much welcome applicants who bring relevant experience, we continue to run a Monday-Friday timetable and therefore teachers’ terms and conditions do not commit them to assisting with evening or weekend boarding duties.

Competitive and dependent upon skills and experience. Further details of other benefits can be found in the supporting information pack.

How to apply:

Please send a completed application form and letter outlining your experience, suitability and ambitions for the role to the HR Officer at or by post to the address below:

We are committed to the safeguarding of children and young people and we expect all staff to share this commitment. All applicants will be subject to pre-employment screening, which includes an enhanced DBS and reference check prior to appointment.
