The Hutchins School, established in 1846, is an internationally-accredited Anglican Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 day and boarding school in Hobart, Tasmania with an enrolment of over 1,000 boys.

An exciting opportunity is available for an outstanding educator and teacher to lead up our newly established ELICOS (English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students) program in Term 3, 2019. Commencing in May (negotiable), this position is responsible for the daily leadership and management of the ELICOS program and plays a pivotal role in creating a successful pathway for overseas students entering the Australian Curriculum.

To be successful in this role you will: 

• Have tertiary qualifications, suitable postgraduate TESOL qualification/s and appropriate teaching experience or other equivalent to meet standards required by the national regulator TEQSA. 

• Be a registered teacher with the Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board.

• Have a thorough understanding of the administrative and legislative requirements of ESOS and NEAS associated with the delivery of English as a Second Language Program within the Australian context. 

• Have demonstrated experience as an Educational Leader in ELICOS curriculum development, review and implementation.

• Have experience in identifying and executing continuous improvement programs and initiatives.

• Have an ability to develop strong relationships with families and their children.

• Be a positive role model for boys, the ELICOS team and broader community.

• Have demonstrated experience in developing and leading a high performing team. 

• Hold a current first aid qualification (desirable).

About The Hutchins School

The Hutchins School is an independent, Anglican day and boarding school for boys from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 in Sandy Bay, Tasmania.

The school was founded in 1846 as a memorial to The Venerable William Hutchins, first Archdeacon of the colony of Van Diemen’s Land.

Facilities

The Hutchins School Library consists of three mini-school information resource centres – the Early Learning Centre Library, the Stephens Library for Junior and Middle Schools and the Senior School's Nettlefold Library.

The Centre for Excellence provides learning support and extension programs. 

In Years 11 and 12, the school has co-operating school arrangements with St Michael’s Collegiate and Fahan School, so students are able to choose from over 100 potential elective courses.

Curriculum

The school has an Early Learning Centre for Pre-Kindergarten to Year 2 and the curriculum is based on the Early Years Learning Framework with a Reggio Emilia approach where relevant and the Australian Curriculum for Prep (Foundation) to Year 2. The class teacher takes all of the core subject areas including, English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography and Art. Specialist teachers are provided for Music, French, Physical Education, Library and RAVE (Religious and Values Education). 

In senior school students pick elective subject options as they move through Years 9 and 10. The co-curricular program in Junior and Senior school includes Music, Performing Arts, Debating, Sports and Duke of Edinburgh
