Job overview

Applications are welcomed for the position of Head of Junior School at North London Collegiate School, Jeju.  Working closely with the wider leadership team, you will ensure that we continue to thrive and improve, offering the very best education and a seamless all-through journey for our students.

The school opened its doors in 2011, established in partnership between North London Collegiate School UK and an agency of the South Korean government.  The school – with its excellent outcomes, dedicated staff and world-class facilities - has proven to be an extremely popular choice with parents and opened its Junior School in response to heavy demand for places.  Results throughout the school are formidable and students matriculate to some of the best universities in the world.  It is an exceptional education based on high academic standards and a deep commitment to providing a well-rounded education.  The successful candidate will be an inspiring and motivated leader who believes that academic excellence and outstanding pastoral care go hand in hand.  An experienced leader, you will help fulfil the potential of our dynamic staff, embed our recent curriculum reforms and lead the Junior School in a new, exciting phase of its development.

The Junior School is flourishing and set to grow: plans have been agreed to increase the capacity of the Junior School.  The next leader will be instrumental in managing this development, ensuring a smooth transition and maximising the opportunities afforded the expanded school phase.

The school is set in a striking location.  Jeju Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, 130km off the southern coast of the Korean peninsula, is often described as one of Asia’s best kept secrets.  With its temperate climate, stunning natural scenery, array of rare and endangered wildlife and welcoming beaches, it is a fascinating and breathtaking environment in which to live.

We provide first-class professional development both through NLCS Jeju and the established NLCS educational community.  This is an exceptional opportunity to join a leading international school in a strategically important role in which you will make a vital contribution.

Final Interviews will be held in the week commencing 15 January 2018 (in London)

NLCS Jeju is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. NLCS Jeju was the first NLCS International School to open its doors in 2011. It is located on the island of Jeju, in South Korea, but its proud heritage is from the United Kingdom, where in 1850 education pioneer Frances Mary Buss established the North London Collegiate School.

In just a few years NLCS Jeju has earned a reputation as one of the most prestigious and successful schools in East Asia. IB Diploma results are outstanding and the school’s graduates are attending some of the world’s leading universities, including Oxbridge and Ivy League colleges.

In keeping with the NLCS philosophy, the curriculum is aspirational and provides significant academic challenge for students. Students sit iGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11 and follow the IB Diploma Programme through Years 12 and 13.

NLCS Jeju offers a highly competitive salary and benefits package including accommodation, flights, health insurance and free places at the school for teachers’ children.

Location

The school is located on the picturesque island of Jeju, in South Korea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also the first international school to be opened as part of the Global Education City on Jeju Island, which is becoming the centre of English education in Korea and the pre-eminent educational hub of Asia.

Jeju Island, 130km off the southern coast of the Korean peninsula, is often described as one of Asia’s best-kept secrets. Jeju’s temperate climate, natural scenery and beaches make it a popular tourist destination for South Koreans as well as visitors from other parts of East Asia.
