Head of Languages

As an 11-19 secondary school serving nearly 1,200 students in central Gateshead, we have some ambitious plans for the future. We have recently joined the Emmanuel Schools Foundation, creating exceptional opportunities for knowledge sharing and career development – and with the renowned Emmanuel College itself just seven minutes away, we have a clear local model for excellence. We are committed to releasing the potential of our students and staff alike, and we have four key priorities for improvement – leadership, curriculum development, teaching and student engagement in extracurricular activities. You will be central to delivering our strategy, as you transform both the school and our students’ futures.
We expect all applicants to be well qualified, self-motivating, adaptable and imaginative, and keen to join a team that is committed to achieving academic excellence in their teaching of languages to students of a wide ability range between the ages of 11 and 18. A particular interest in recent developments in your subject, experience in the arranging of foreign visits and an awareness of current language curriculum initiatives will be expected.
Join us and you can expect to be nurtured, supported and encouraged at every step of your career through the Emmanuel College Teaching School. We are committed to investing in you and your career development, with the possibility of working closely with colleagues at Emmanuel College, one-to-one coaching and future opportunities to undertake educational research. In short, we are looking to develop exceptional teachers and school leaders of tomorrow – either here or across the Emmanuel Schools Foundation – so we can take your career anywhere you want to go as this is a school where everyone can shine.
We look forward to hearing from you.
