Job overview

Required for a September 2020 start, an exceptional teacher is required to lead and develop Latin at Bishopsgate School.  The successful candidate will be passionate in skills based learning and have the desire and ability to stretch every child regardless of their starting position.

Bishopsgate is a vibrant and happy community in which we all do our utmost to ensure that the children in our care enjoy their childhoods and develop a lifelong love of learning. Children's prep school years are precious and we strive for the highest standards both of teaching and learning and of pastoral care.

Latin (including Classical Civilisation) will be your primary subject, although an ability to contribute to the teaching in other curriculum areas, particularly English and Games, is desirable.

In year 7 and 8 the School instigates some setting in Latin, and at present the School broadly follows the Cambridge course. The successful candidate will also work with the Deputy Head (Teaching and Learning) in preparing pupils for academic scholarships at senior schools through the Academic Enrichment Programme, which is heavily based on Skills Based Learning.

You must be passionate about teaching and learning, striving to help each child achieve - there are no limits to learning at our school. Teaching is innovative, dynamic and skills based. Staff are flexible, adaptable and willing to take risks.

The Mission of Bishopsgate School is to prepare its pupils for life beyond school, fostering the qualities of industry, tolerance and honesty among all members of the school community, and helping them build up the mental, emotional, social and strategic resources to enjoy challenge and cope with uncertainty and complexity; to discover the things they would love to be good at while strengthening their will and skill to pursue them.

Please see our job description and person specification for a complete view of the role. Salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s level of experience.

The School reserves the right to make an appointment before the closing date, so applicants are encouraged to apply immediately as this job may be withdrawn at any point without notice.

Closing Date: 11:59 Sunday 19th January 2020

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview in the week beginning Monday 20th January.

Bishopsgate School is committed to providing a safe environment for its pupils and staff. Applicants for this post will be required to provide proof of identity at interview and undergo an enhanced DBS check before starting work.
