Saltus Grammar School (Saltus) is a high achieving, co-educational day

school educating students between the ages of 4 and 18. The school

(Saltus) is a leading independent school in Bermuda and enjoys an

school has a Primary Department, which embraces the Foundation

Year, the Lower Primary and the Upper Primary years, and a Secondary

Department which includes Middle School (Years 7-9) and Senior

School (Years 10 & 11) and Saltus Graduate Years (SGY1, SGY2). The

school’s international curriculum blends the best of both UK and North

American traditions, including its highly regarded Advanced Placement

Programme. In addition to academic excellence, particular emphasis is

placed on the all-round development of students.


Head of Learning Commons

Reporting to the Director of Curriculum, the Head of Learning

Commons shares the responsibility of ensuring the direction of the

Learning Commons is synonymous with the strategic direction of

Saltus Grammar School. The Head of Learning Commons actively

promotes the Learning Commons as the center for inquiry and research

for the Middle and Senior Schools by working closely with faculty to

ensure the curriculum promotes inquiry, integration and collaboration

across disciplines and departments. The Head of Learning Commons

is also responsible for oversight of the day to day operations of the

Learning Commons including two satellite Primary libraries and the

Teaching Museum and Archives.


Key Responsibilities:

• Develops and implements a Learning Commons vision aligned

with the School’s strategic direction including the Teaching

Museum and Archives collection and program.

• Collaborates with faculty to design and implement engaging

inquiry and learning that incorporates multiple literacies, relevant

assessment and fosters critical thinking and appropriate resources

for research.

• Oversees the Learning Commons collection, development, and

maintenance; oversees purchase of materials, monitors budget and

provides oversight for the satellite Primary libraries

• Works closely with students and faculty to promote development

of information literacy and referencing skills and to build skill

development and independence in searching and using resources

in print and digital formats.

• Ensures the Learning Commons is a welcoming and inclusive

environment in both the physical and virtual realms that supports

student and faculty learning.

• Oversees and manages direct reports as well as coordination of

parent and student volunteers.

• Provides professional learning and training to faculty and staff

including but not limited to research skills, digital literacies,

online resources, documentation, and assessment.

• Works with the Director of Curriculum to manage teams and

facilitate professional learning for staff.

• Demonstrates and supports the School’s vision, mission and

pedagogical stance.

• Maintains active membership in relevant organizations.

Minimum Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in teaching position required.

• Post- Secondary Degree in Education required.

• Experience in a library or learning commons setting required.

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of inquiry-based approaches

to learning.

• Understanding and knowledge in researching and using new

technologies to engage and support student learning.

• High degree of proficiency in implementing and using a variety of

digital and print resources.

• Technologically proficient in a wide range of educational platforms.

• Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.

• Ability to think strategically.

• Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and work within a

fast-paced environment.

• Flexible, innovative and a curious learner.

• Ability to work independently and within a team.

• Positive and enthusiastic.

• Sense of humor

• Clean criminal record
