                                                          AGED 11 -18

                                              REQUIRED JANUARY 2018

                                 HEAD OF SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

                                                             SENCO

Box Hill School is a co-educational community of 425 girls and boys aged 11 to 18, whose educational ideals and practice are designed to get the best out of each student. The school follows the philosophy of Kurt Hahn, founder of Gordonstoun in Scotland: while placing academic work at the heart of a school, Hahn stressed the importance of an all-round education as a preparation for life.

The Learning Support Department at Box Hill School requires a SENCO for January 2018 who is qualified to at least Diploma Level 7 in SpLD.

The SENCO, with the support of the Head and Governing body, takes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of provision made by the school for pupils with SEN and provides professional guidance in the area of SEN in order to secure high quality teaching and the effective use of resources to bring about improved standards of achievement of all pupils.

The successful applicant will run a large and thriving department of specialist teachers and learning support assistants. He/she will have teaching and curriculum expertise and a sensitive approach suited to advising teaching colleagues as well as leading whole-school training. He/she will be up-to-date with best practice in SEN provision and able to carry out assessment for access arrangements. Excellent organisational skills are required for the coordination of one-to-one support lessons and in-class support across the school, as is a high level of specialist teaching skill to ensure the best provision for students in the department. Experience in writing and reviewing IEPs is essential as is the ability to establish a good rapport with students and staff to help promote the achievement and well-being of pupils with SEN in school.

We aim to appoint colleagues who will involve themselves whole-heartedly within our community and who see teaching as a way of life, not just a job.
