Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious and focused individual who has a passion for languages and teaching and wants to help create linguists of the future. The post has become available due to the internal promotion of the present post holder.

The MFL department at TBS is thriving and expanding. We offer A Level Spanish and are looking to further develop KS5 language courses by offering A-level French among other language opportunities for post-16 students. The person appointed will also play a key role in developing the departments’ involvement in the International Baccalaureate Career Program curriculum. KS3 and KS4 students currently learn either French or Spanish with students opting at the start of year 7 for the language they will study. At KS4 languages is an option that is growing in popularity and as such, numbers are healthy and results are strong.

The department has its own modern teaching rooms with interactive projectors and whiteboards. The MFL team is one of the leading departments in using technology and students’ own devices to enhance learning across the school. We have excellent schemes of work, digital resources as well as traditional materials and our cross-curricular links with other subject areas are strong. We are passionate about promoting language learning and we regularly host whole school activities such as European Day of Languages. The team is small at present but we plan to expand further over the coming years as uptake continues to rise and the offer at post 16 expands.

There are a number of overseas trips each year run by school, such as our forthcoming exchange trip to Brussels and the KS4 and KS5 visit to Valencia. Students are encouraged to go on these trips in order to develop their language skills and confidence in speaking.

At TBS, you will be part of a welcoming, supportive and dedicated staff team. You will be provided with your own teaching room and have a mentor within the department. You will also have access to professional development through a series of CPD activities, with a whole school, departmental and individual focus. Our school is vibrant with many extra-curricular activities and opportunities, and we encourage getting involved in existing clubs and societies or even starting your own.

If appointed, you will be joining TBS during our exciting journey into Visible Learning using the research of John Hattie. Visible Learning aims to develop our pedagogy, as teachers become evaluators of their own teaching. Our teaching and learning approach centres on what has the biggest impact on student learning using the simple concepts of; impact, change, challenge and learning focus.

We believe the atmosphere in our school speaks for itself, and should you wish to arrange for a visit prior to application or interview, please contact Sam Harwood; PA to the Headteacher.

If you have excellent communication skills and passionately believe in putting student learning first then we would like to hear from you.

For further information about the school, the role and application details, please visit the school website www.beaconsfield.bucks.sch.uk. The vacancy section can be found under Joining Us.

Completed application forms should be sent FAO: Sam Harwood to office@beaconsfield.school

Closing date for applications: 20 March 2018
